“That’s me,” she said. “Guess that phone is a hot commodity.”

“Sorry,” he said again. “The damn texts won’t stop coming in.”

“Seems to be part of life,” she said and let out a giggle when she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. “Me too.”

“What?” he asked.

“My phone just vibrated in my back pocket.” She pulled it out and showed him the text that popped up and then another before she returned it to its normal spot.

“Guess that means we are important people,” he said.

“Sure. I like that explanation. In my case that text was my sister. So yeah, more like she needs a shoulder. She can wait. I’m working.”

“It could be important,” he said to her.

“It could, but we’ve got a code. My siblings and I. If the text starts with 911, then we know we need to call right away. Otherwise we are all busy and will get to it when we can.”

“Smart,” he said. “As long as everyone understands what is important equally.”

She laughed. “That has been a problem in the past. But I’ve trained my sisters well. They don’t cry wolf.”

Ivy was the one who did it the most, but she knew better now. Dahlia never did. Most times she just wanted to catch up on life. Ivy always had drama going on.

Her phone went off again and though Ivy didn’t cry wolf she did have a bad habit of sending multiple texts in a row and that was more annoying than anything.

“You might have to teach me how to train people like that,” he said when his phone went off in his hand again. “All I do is run around this place trying to figure things out.”

“You look like a pretty smart guy. I’m sure you’re figuring it out just fine.”

“Thanks. And I’ll let you get back to work.”

“You too,” she said and let out a sigh. It was better than nothing, but she wondered if she blew her shot at asking him for a drink or dinner.

She wasn’t normally that forward anyway and figured it was best to let it go at this point.

When she got back to the flower shop, the first thing Lily asked her was, “Did you see your hot crush?”

“I expected Poppy to ask me that, not you.”

“Ask you what?” Poppy said, her head in the doorway to the flower shop from the hallway that connected the two buildings. “Lily, I was just looking for you.”

“I asked Jasmine if she saw Wesley since she was just out at the marina.”

“Ohhh,” Poppy said, rubbing her hands in front of her. “Did you?”

“I did,” she said. “When I was leaving he bumped into me while looking at his phone and not paying attention. We talked for a few minutes.”

“Did you ask him out?” Poppy asked.

“It didn’t seem the time,” she said.

“Bummer,” Poppy said. “I’m sure you’ll find another time.”

“That’s right,” Lily said. “Not everyone is as aggressive as you were, Poppy.”

“Life is supposed to be fun,” Poppy said.

“Before you two go upstairs, I should tell you I might have done something I shouldn’t have,” Jasmine said, wincing.
