“I bet you value things in life. The important things. That your parents made sure of that.”

“I do. They did. I work for what I’ve got and I’m appreciative of it all. I try not to take anything for granted, but I also don’t want anyone to think I’m going after a guy for his money.” She lowered her voice and leaned closer. “I’d rather go after one with good looks, a great personality, and a smoking body.”

“Well then,” he said. “You put me in my place.”

What He Needs

Yes, Wesley had said she’d put him in his place and she was glad that he’d seen it that way.

But there was another place she’d like to be in with him and things were going slower than she’d thought they might.

On impulse ten days ago she’d pulled him in for the deeper kiss. She wanted to see what his reaction would be. Not just his physical one.

There was a big part of her that didn’t like the guessing game and she needed some kind of a hint. That was an answer without her having to ask.

Since that date, they’d had two more. The last being last night. Always going out to dinner and spending a lot of time talking.

They’d gone back to her house and sat on the couch and watched a movie first. They talked about things they liked or didn’t. Some of her life as a kid but not a ton.

He didn’t tend to ask like so many others did. Only if she brought it up first.

Just like he didn’t talk about Noelle unless she brought it up and then he’d drop it fast. She just wanted him to know he could talk about his late wife with her and she wouldn’t get upset or feel bad.

She knew that was part of his healing process.

Before he’d left, they’d made out more. A lot more.

To the point he was lying on top of her on the couch and she thought for sure they’d end up in her bed.

Nope. He got up and said he should leave and she wanted to stomp her foot in frustration.

Normally she was off on the weekends unless there was a wedding or party she had to deliver or set up for. The flower shop wasn’t open on Sundays, but she offered to deliver the arrangements for the last minute baby shower so that she could hopefully sneak away and catch a glimpse of Wesley. No reason to have another staff go in for an hour or two or deliver everything on Saturday and hope it was stored properly.

She also was informed that Mona knew the two of them were dating and she had a feeling the woman might want to talk to her.

“Do you need help bringing them in?” Mona asked her when she pulled to the back of the building and carried the first arrangement in. The one for the head table.

“I’ve got it,” she said. “Oh, everything is set up already in here too.”

“Yes,” Mona said. “We set the tables up last night and the linens were just put down. I’m excited over the first event.”

She found that funny because, per Wesley, his mother loved to entertain and a baby shower for fifty or so people shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

“It’s going to be perfect,” she said. “When are they coming to decorate?”

“It starts at one and they said they’d be here around noon. There wasn’t much to do other than some balloons and the favors. I’d said we’d set them out for them, but I think Linda wants to do it herself. She isn’t even allowing Amanda here to see anything until it’s done.”

“Which is very sweet,” she said.

Jasmine left to get the other arrangements, carrying two in at a time. The ones for the other tables weren’t as big, but they all had a piece from Blossoms on them.

The head table had a white scarf with lilac flowers scattered throughout it weaved around the basket that Amanda could have as a keepsake or wear if she chose later on.

The rest of them had hair accessories that were set on top or off to the side. Each one was different with all inspired colors.

When she brought the last one in, Mona had already picked up the others and set them on the tables.
