“As I was informed. It didn’t work out,” he said, looking off into the backyard.

“Mommy, there is smoke in the backyard over there,” she heard yelled and looked over at Wesley.

“Oh boy. We heard that pretty clearly. Sounds like kids live next door. Now I’m really worried about our X-rated show.”

“That kid was screaming,” he said, smiling. “You weren’t that loud and I kissed you when you started to get that way.”

“That’s true,” she said.

“I want to see if they’ve got kids,” they heard again.

“Carly,” they heard a woman say. “Stop it. They can hear you.”

Jasmine giggled. “I’m going to guess you haven’t grilled yet since they can see the smoke?”

“I haven’t,” he said. “I haven’t had time to cook much more than easy things in the house.”

“Ahh,” she said. “You’re making an exception for me.”

“I am,” he said, holding his hand out and pulling her close to him. “I know spending the night is a tricky thing.”

“Not tricky,” she said. “I told you I was leaving.”

“You did. We both have to work tomorrow. But if it were Friday night and I asked you to stay ahead of time what would you answer me?”

“My answer would be yes,” she said.

He kissed her softly on the lips and then put his attention back toward the steaks to flip them.

She wanted to pinch his arm for teasing her but kept her lips sealed. He obviously still needed to work his way up to it and they both knew where they stood right now.

It was more than she had hours ago and hopefully would only get better.

“You’re walking funny,” Poppy said to her the next morning.

“I’m not walking at all,” she said. “What are you talking about? I’m just standing here.”

“You are, but you’re shifting. You got lucky this weekend, didn’t you?”

Jasmine let out a sigh. There was no reason to hide this. “Maybe.”

“Woohoo,” Poppy said, doing a little dance with her arms in the air. “That a girl. Was it worth the wait?”

“How do you know we haven’t done it before now?”

“Please,” Poppy said, waving her hand. “That first time you want it so badly you keep doing it regardless of how uncomfortable you are. The pleasure overrides the pain until the next day and everything hurts.”

“Is Poppy talking about sexagain?” Rose asked, coming into the back room.

“She is,” she said.

“Jasmine got some action this weekend,” Poppy said. “She’s shifting while trying to get comfortable.”

Rose rolled her eyes. “Ignore Poppy. Not sure why she is back here, but I need some flowers.”
