“Apart from going crazy last night knowing you could be in danger, I’m fine,” I emphasize. “You don’t have to carry the burden alone.” I take his hands and place them on the swell of my body. “Talk to me because we’re here for you.”

His gaze fixes on my ever-growing stomach. He lowers to his knees and kisses my stomach before placing his ear to the mound. “Yes,” he whispers. “I know your mother can be stubborn. I agree.” His gaze lifts and meets mine, and he’s smirking. “We’re both tired, and we need to sleep.”

I smile at his effort to distract me. I turn off the tap and hand him a towel. While I dry off, I keep a close eye on him. He groans when he bends to run the towel along his long limbs. I push up to my toes and ruffle his hair with a towel. “I’m going to cut your hair before we leave.”

“When you say we leave, where do you think we’re going to go?”

I take his hand and lead him back to the bed. “Ulara.”

He says nothing, yet I feel the tension in him.

“Another thing to discuss after you sleep,” I add.

I climb under the sheet with him and roll, so my head is close to his, although my stomach keeps us apart.

He edges closer to kiss me on the lips. “Let me sleep so at least I can put up some argument about keeping you safe.”

It doesn’t take long for Samuel to fall asleep. While he rests, I think more and more about the future. Our future. How far we have come as a couple.

Thinking back to the times I was with Ethan, there was an element of flirtation, a lot of sexting, and every weekend we went out, drank a lot, which led to drunk sex. Yet during the night, he remained with the guys and I with my friends until it was time to go home.

In a short time, I’ve learned what love is while being with Samuel. We don’t need the flirting. Take everything away, his touch, his kisses, the sex, and still that deep feeling of what he means to me remains.

How far I will go for him.

It will be tough when we’re apart. I’ll give it my all to convince him to come home with me after the baby is born, although already I know there are certain tasks he needs to fulfill, including another trip to the tepui. The thought of him making the journey and leaving me alone in the village again freaks me out. So I accept he’ll do the trip when I’m gone. After everything we have been through, I believe we can overcome any obstacle thrown at us. It will take time, and thankfully, I’m learning to be a patient person.

Except while we’re here in Canaima with my erratic hormones controlling my thoughts. My fingers skim over his muscled abs, stalling at the dent of the ‘V’ pointing down to where the sheet sits on his naked hips. I slip one finger under the edge of the sheet.

I want all the sex while we’re here because admittedly, there’s a lot to be said for a comfortable bed and having access to a shower. As much as I want to wake him and throw my leg over his hips so I’m strategically placed to arouse him, I have to focus on relaxing him so he’ll talk to me.

Perhaps there’s a point to having sex first.

Allowing him time to sleep, I roll onto my side, close my eyes, and relax alongside him.

“Eden,” Samuel whispers.

My eyes flutter open.

Warm breath blows in my ear. “You were talking in your sleep,” he says in a low, sexy voice.

“What did I say?” I murmur, rolling with one hand to cover my eyes.

“It’s not what you were saying but more the noises you were making.”

Noises. I wipe my mouth. “Was I snoring?”

“Were you dreaming?”

I know what I was dreaming about. I open my eyes, and the way his gaze heats, he knows.

“You…”

“Was I doing this?” He flips onto all fours and trails kisses from my shoulder to my breast. My breath hitches the moment he takes my breast in his mouth, and his tongue toys with my already hard nipple.

“Maybe…” I rasp.
