I smile lovingly. “Our little miracle.”

“I’ll order in breakfast as the dining room will be busy.”

“Sure, but not much. I don’t want to spoil our lunch.” I grin at him. Samuel stands and opens his bag and pulls out a box tied with ribbon.

“You said no presents,” I blurt.

Samuel smiles and places the box on the bed beside us. “I didn’t want you shopping in the crowds. I ordered this and had it delivered.”

“And I could’ve shopped online as well if I’d known you were breaking the rules.”

He chuckles and pats my leg. “I’ll shower first, and then I’ll burp Rose.”

Staring at the box, I’m tempted to untie the red ribbon and take a peek. It’s a small rectangular box, and it’s not as small as one that holds a ring. Besides, we agreed to buy my engagement ring together. And that won’t be until Rose can be in public with a stronger immune system.

Rose pulls off my breast, her lips pursing as she makes a contented sound. “Did we drink too much?” I say and giggle at her adorable facial expressions.

The bathroom door swings open, and a freshly showered Samuel emerges. He towel-dries his sexy blond hair. “Is she finished?”

“Yes. I think she overdid it.”

He takes Rose from my arms. “Okay, baby girl, no puking on Daddy.” He places a hand towel on his shoulder and moves around the room while gently patting her back.

“Can I open this now?” I hold the box in my hands.

“Go ahead.” He beams a smile at me.

I untie the ribbon and lift the lid. “Oh, Samuel.” My hand rests at the base of my neck. “It’s beautiful.” I can’t take my eyes off the intricate gold heart on a chain. The design is a 3D heart with smaller hearts on vines to make the shape. Inside the cage are three diamond-encrusted hearts.

Samuel sits on the bed beside me. “The vines and hearts representlove grows. And the three smaller hearts—”

“Represent the three of us,” I say enthusiastically.

Balancing Rose on his lap, he leans in and kisses me. “I love you.”

Taking his face in both my hands, I hold his lips to mine and show him how much I adore him.

“I’m sorry I don’t have anything for you.”

Samuel shakes his head. “I have you and Rose. I don’t need anything else.”

I kiss him again and then head to the shower. I take my time washing my hair and lathering the fruity-scented soap over my body. Taking the bathrobe from the hook, I wrap it around me before opening the door. Our breakfast platter is on the table. “Oh, did I take a long time?”

Samuel chuckles. Rose is asleep in his arms. “Take all the time you need.” He places Rose in the crib and joins me at the table. Besides the usual fruit Samuel insists I eat for my health, there’s a plate of scrambled eggs, toast, and fruit juice.

“I’m not sure if this qualifies as a light breakfast.”

He hands me a glass of camu camu juice. “No, but you need nourishment.”

“We,” I add with a smile.

He stands and finds my gift, then he clips the necklace around my neck. I lightly touch the heart hanging between my breasts and close to my heart. “I’ll treasure it always.”

“Ready?” Samuel asks with Rose secured in a wrap around his shoulder and tied at the waist. He’s wearing a white button-up short-sleeved shirt and navy shorts.

Brushing my hair for the last time, I check myself in the mirror, admiring my forest green dress, then take the elevator to the ground floor. Tinsel and sparkly Christmas decorations line the hallway and foyer. I smile, thankful to be sharing this day with Samuel.
