“About what?”

I took a deep breath, steadying myself, but finally prepared to say what I wanted to say. She was my closest friend, after all, and I needed to share this with someone. It wasn’t like I had anyone else to confide in about deep secrets like this one. “Last weekend was crazy. Landon is different than I expected...in a good way.”

“Oh, holy shit.” Olivia pressed against the bar as she worked to get closer to me. Luckily, the place wasn’t busy yet, and I was confident the people at the other end of the bar were too far away to hear our conversation. “There’s more to this, isn’t there?”

I nodded.

“Tell me everything.”

I gnawed on my bottom lip. “He’s...we had chemistry. Like...more than professional chemistry.”

“What?” She drew the question out, emphasizing the syllable.

I nodded.

Olivia asked her next question in a stage whisper. “Did you sleep with him?”

I bit back a smile.

“Oh my God, you did.” She pushed back from the bar. “You totally did.”

“Well, can you blame me?”

“Not at all.” My friend crossed her arms and leaned closer to me. “He’s gorgeous.”

“In a screwed up, troubled, master of the universe kind of way.”

I laughed at my own description, and then a pulse of excitement ran through me as I remembered once again how fantastic he’d been in bed, how our bodies melted together as if they were made for each other, fitting together perfectly, and then how raw and real it had been to wake up in his arms. Since coming home, I’d barely gone fifteen minutes without thinking about it.It’s almost like I’m becoming obsessed with him...

“He said he wants to come to Cincinnati this weekend,” I added in a voice barely above a murmur myself. It felt so strange to say the words aloud, as if they were confirmation what happened between us was more than a weekend fling. “Tomorrow.”

“Holy shit. Holy fucking shit.”

I raised an eyebrow and didn’t break my friend’s gaze. Her expression told me what I needed to know—this was a big deal, as I suspected it was. “Yep.”

“You’re going to meet him, right? I mean...you’re not turning him down.”

A flash of memory caught my mind—Landon’s lips on mine, pushing me to open, demanding that I submit, claiming me as his. “No. No way.”

“Good.”

“So much for reporter objectivity, right? That went totally out the window.”

“Nobody has to know.” Olivia reached behind the bar and produced an open bottle of chilled white wine. “You look like you need a glass. Or maybe you need some champagne.”

“No.” I waved a hand. “No champagne. But I’ll take a glass of the white, thank you.”

She moved away for a few moments, and when she returned, she had a fresh glass and a large pour. “Here. On the house. Think of it as a celebration.” Olivia raised her glass and we cheered each other, though I wasn’t quite sure what we were celebrating—the article? The fact that for once, my sex life was off life support? Both?

Does it matter?

I sipped my wine. “Delicious.”

“The wine, or him?”

“Both. Equally.”

Olivia braced herself against the bar again. “I’m going to have to hear about all of this later, when I will have time to get all the details. Something tells me you’ve got a lot to say.”
