I must find out who’s behind this.

They’re going to pay with their blood.

A second later, as if on cue, my phone starts ringing. I glance down and frown when an unknown ID flashes on the screen. I answer the call and press the phone to my ear, waiting for the person on the other end to say something.

“Boss.” I hear Petrov’s voice, and I’m instantly alert.

“Petrov,” I say.

“I have a lead,” he gets straight to the point. I stand and start moving away from the training ground.

“Talk to me,” I say.

“The guy from the restaurant left that bike gang two years ago and started working solo. He is a trained assassin,” Petrov says.

I clench my fist because I know what that means. Someone’s put a hit out on me. I turned the tables on him before he knew what was happening. So much for being a trained assassin; the least skilled of my men would have easily brought him down.

“What else do you have?” I question as I take long strides back inside the house.

“I don’t have details of who might have hired him, but I’m on it,” Petrov says. “I’ve mailed you all I’ve uncovered so far.”

“Keep digging. I want everything you can find,” I mutter. Rage simmers when I think of how close they came to my private world. An assassin at my first meeting with the woman who would become my wife? Who could have known where we’d be?

“I’m on it, Boss,” he says.

“Good,” I reply before I end the call.

I rush toward my office, eager to check the mail Petrov sent. The contents leave me frustrated. It holds nothing of interest to me except the background details of the man.

My mind is still racing over the details when the door opens, and Aurora walks in. Her facial expression tells me all I need to know. She is furious. But I’m not in the mood to talk to anyone right now.

“Why?” she asks. I give her a frown. I don’t understand what she is talking about, nor do I care.

“Not now,Solnishko,” I say, hoping that she will get the warning in my tone. If she does, she ignores it. She’s still tapping her foot on the floor, her glare filled with defiance.

“Don’t think you can just brush me off like a child. We are talking about this now! Why did you snoop through my belongings?” she demands.

Suddenly, I understand what she is talking about. She is referring to the birth control pills I took from her luggage. I’m grateful for the hidden camera I have installed in her room. If it wasn’t for my surveillance, I wouldn’t have known she was being sneaky.

How can she be on the pill when the main goal of this arrangement is for her to give me heirs? It’s even more infuriating that she’s taking the damn pills when we haven’t even started fucking yet.

“Get to the point,” I tell her.

“Why did you take my pills?” she asks. I lean against my desk, watching her intently.

“You have no use for them anymore,” I tell her with a shrug. Her eyes flash with anger.

“You have no right to decide whether I need those pills or not,” she says, still glaring at me.

“That’s where you are wrong. You are my wife, which means I have every right,” I tell her.

“Fuck you,” she says as her breathing becomes erratic.

“Gladly,” I respond with a smirk. I’m starting to enjoy this argument.

“This is not over. If you don’t give me my pills back, I’ll find a way to get another set,” she says. In an instant, my amusement turns into anger. Is the idea of carrying my seed so repugnant that she would go to any length to kill the chances of having my child? I step away from the desk and stalk toward her.

“No, you won’t.” There is menace in my voice.
