I shrugged. “I’ll text you.”

He wasn’t like Yuri, who was still recovering from being shot. With Yuri I could shoot the shit. Showing up with Angel by my side was a whole different story.

It started the moment he parked his car, a Mercedes McLaren, right in front of the building entrance just after cutting someone off.

A series of frustrated honks followed, but he ignored it. The moment he got out, all six-foot-four of him in a custom-made suit, the staring started. I could feel inquisitive eyes on my back. Angel took it all in stride, strutting next to me, as relaxed and cool as a cucumber.

I hid my smile. “You know, this isn’t a catwalk.”

“Yes, it is. Life is a catwalk.”

“Shakespeare?” I guessed.

“No, me.”

I could never win an argument with this guy. I was trying to come up with a comeback when I spotted two familiar faces heading our way. They were just coming out of the dormitory.

“You know them?” Angel asked. When I gave him a questioning look, he said, “You stiffened when blonde and blonder looked at you.”

They weren’t looking at me. They were staring athim. I’d have bet people all over campus were trying to remember which movies he’d starred in.

I shrugged. “They called me a mafia princess. Not to my face, of course, just behind my back.”

A dangerous glint appeared in his eyes. “That’s not fair.”

It wasn’t, but when had life been fair?

“They should woman up and tell you to your face.”

Oh no. He was going to make a project out of this. For all his devil-may-care attitude, Angel was very protective of his Bratva, and consequently me. I loved him for it, but I also didn’t want a scene.

“Please don’t,” I whispered.

“Hi, Katya,” one of the blondes said. She was eying Angel like he was candy.

It surprised me she knew my name. “Hi.” I urged Angel with my stare to keep a move on, but he stopped right in front of the girls.

“Who’s your friend?” Blonde Number Two asked. She twirled a curl around a finger.

“I’m Angel. Katya’s…” he paused for dramatic effect before continuing. “Bodyguard.”

I groaned. It was one thing when people suspected stuff, but it was a whole different matter when you confirmed it for them.

The girls mouths formedOshapes. Blonde Number One literally took a step back. Her friend wasn’t as smart. She continued to eye-fuck Angel.

“That sounds like dangerous work,” she gasped, drooling over him.

I snorted. Typical. Me, she avoided like the plague, thinking I had mob connections. Angel all but told her he was actual mob and she was on him like wheat on rice.

“I get by,” Angel said. “Mostly I just watch over Katya, but sometimes I need to take out people who whisper behind her back.”

This time, both girls paled.

Then, to my shock, Angel took out a card and gave it to Blonde Number Two. “Call me if you ever need a good, hard… guard.”

My jaw dropped when the girl took his card and smiled. Gone was the apprehension on her face, as if he hadn’t just semi-threatened her less than a minute before.

I clenched my jaw and continued walking to my English lit class. Angel was immediately by my side.
