They had returned from the swimming pool a couple of hours ago and were yet to get ready to go to a live theater show and dinner at a restaurant when her phone began ringing.

She wanted to ignore it, but looking at the number, she got up from the bed. Slipping into her robe, she quickly stepped into the balcony and answered the phone. She didn’t want to risk the other person from knowing Aarav was in her room.

“Hello, Dr. Pathak.”

“Hello, my dear. How are you doing?”

“I’m doing well.”

“I hope you are loving the cruise vacation and not worrying about anything.”

“Yes, I am enjoying the cruise.”

“That’s good, dear. How is Commander Rathod doing?” Dr. Pathak asked.

Sitara turned to look at Aarav who was lying on the bed, looking like a well-satisfied emperor who had spent time with his favorite concubine.

“Uh… he is doing well too.”

“Good. I hope he is taking good care of you.”

Sitara’s cheeks heated recalling the things the bossy jerk made her do just a while ago. Her jaw still ached a little.

“He is, Dr. Pathak,” she murmured before quickly changing the topic. “How are things over there? Is the investigation going well?”

“Unfortunately, it’s still the same status. You know how law enforcement is these days. Everyone is too lazy unless there is pressure from the top.”

Sitara wasn’t sure what that would mean. She hoped by the time the cruise was over, there would be a clear verdict of a random robbery than a targeted attack.

“Don’t worry, Dr. Pathak. And please don’t take unnecessary stress. I will be back in four days and we can deal with it together.”

“Oh no, I am fine, my dear. I have an acquaintance who knows the commissioner. I’ll use the contact to put pressure on the case. Meanwhile, you enjoy the rest of the cruise and don’t worry about this.”

“Okay.”

Thanking the older woman, Sitara ended the call and opened the balcony door before stepping inside the bedroom. She frowned as she tried to process the implications.

“What did Dr. Pathak say?”

She looked at Aarav who was watching her.

“The usual. The investigation is still ongoing.”

“Did you mention that we changed our cabins?” he asked.

“No. The topic didn’t come up.” She realized he had asked her that question before too. “Why can’t I tell her?”

Then it struck her. “Wait. Are you suspecting Dr. Pathak’s involvement in the break in and threat?”

He didn’t say anything. He was still watching her carefully.

She erupted with anger. “Dr. Pathak is my mentor for god’s sake! She supported me during my research and many other times! Why would she sabotage my office!”

“Until the investigation is done. Everyone is a suspect.”

“That is stupid! Next you will even suspect my assistant Preeti.”

He didn’t say anything again.
