She threw up her hands. “You are getting ridiculously paranoid, Aarav. There isnodanger. And there will be no danger!”

“Follow my instructions, Tara. Don’t argue with me.”

His curt command made her angrier. “No! I won’t! And why should I trust you over my mentor and my good friend? Just because I allowed you back into my bed, don’t presume you earned my trust or can dictate my life.”

He looked pissed. “I’m not just in your fucking bed,” he growled. “I’m in your life. And I’m fucking protecting you.”

A jolt of panic hit her seeing the possessive look on his face.

She shook her head. “No! You don’t have to protect me! And I can’t let you in my life again. You broke my heart already once.”

“How the hell did I break your heart?” he demanded. “You left me! You ran from me and married my best friend!”

“I did that because you broke my trust!” she shouted, her voice catching. “You lied to me!”

He went quiet for a long moment.

She was about to walk away, but he caught her wrist. “What lie?” he asked in a grim tone. “Tell me what happened and why did you leave me.”

“It doesn’t matter anymore.”

“Your tears say otherwise,” he said.

She realized then that she was crying. She wiped away her tears angrily, but fresh ones began again. She had already shed too many tears over him and had vowed she wouldn’t again. But now, she was breaking her promise to herself.

I have to get away from him.

She yanked her hand away from his grip and hurried out of the bedroom.

“Where are you going?” he asked.

She didn’t reply and ran towards the living room and then to the cabin suite door.

“Tara, stop.”

Her anger and past heartbreak made her run faster.

I shouldn’t have made the deal. Why the hell did I think I could compensate heartbreak with passion?

He broke her heart once, and now he was dangerously close to breaking her completely.

I have to get away from him. I can’t be with him anymore.

She pulled the main door of the cabin suite open and was about to step out when his arm wrapped around her waist and yanked her back lifting her off her feet.

“Let me go!” she screamed.

But he didn’t let her go. He kicked the door shut before taking her inside while she kicked and screamed and struggled to escape.

He took her into the bedroom and threw her on the bed.

“Stop running from me again!” he shouted. “Talk to me!”

She didn’t want to talk. “Let me go!” she yelled, wanting to escape him.

He looked at her. “No.”

Anger and heartbreak made her attack him. She slapped him and tried to claw him. “I hate you!”
