There had not only been shock, but also fear written on Tara’s face when he told her about his dream for the first time.

“Yes, I am studying aeronautical engineering, but it is through NCC sponsorship. My dream is to join the Air Force.”

Although Tara had told him that she had lost her parents and brother in a terrorist attack, she hadn’t mentioned to him about her crippling fear of losing another loved one. He lost his family to terror too, but it made him determined in a different way.

But it was too late to do anything. He already loved her. But he also felt passionate about serving his country.

In his youthful arrogance and also in his determination to go against fate, he thought he could somehow have both—the girl he madly loved and the other passion that burned inside his heart. He had kept deflecting, wooing Tara back when she broke up with him, and did everything to not lose her, including lying about his missions.

But he eventually lost her.

It was the first time, he thought that maybe fate existed and had won over him.

But it didn’t.

He now knew fate hadn’t won. Luck brought Tara back into his life. And he now knew what he had to do.

It was time to set things right. He knew he had to make a critical phone call first and then set things into motion.

He looked at Tara’s sleeping face.

I don’t believe in fate, Tara. We write our own destiny. And you are my destiny.

CHAPTER 19

Sitara woke up the next morning to see Aarav watching her.

“I agree with what you proposed,” he said. “Let’s continue the deal until the end of the cruise.”

Relief hit her, but it felt bittersweet. She was glad there wasn’t any hurt or anger from Aarav’s side and also that he didn’t insist on them getting back together.

The danger still remained and she did not want to risk his life because of her.

“Three more days,” she said softly, watching him with an ache in her chest.

“Three more days,” he agreed before pulling her close and their lips met.

Even as she got lost in ecstasy, she knew it would break her heart to part from him again. But she decided it was for the best.

***

The only way Sitara knew she could spend the next three days without falling apart was to live in the moment. She decided not to talk or think about the past or future.

Aarav thankfully felt the same and didn’t bring up their past or future. They spent time together as before the truth came out.

“Where are we going first?” Sitara asked as they disembarked the cruise ship.

The cruise ship stopped at another island. It was the last one in the trip.

“Somewhere you’ll get wet and scream out loudly,” Aarav drawled.

An older couple walking in the front turned and gave them shocked looks.

Sitara’s cheeks heated and she whacked Aarav. “Stop being a jerk and tell me!” she scolded.

His mouth twisted. “Parasailing and jet skiing”

“Oh.”
