People stirred around the table. Phantom felt the urge to lash out. His hands hurt from the effort of restraining them. Shadow stirred, sensing the mood in the room.

“Fuck.”

“Demonios.”

“Here? Are they coming for us now?”

“Ash, get security on it,” Colt barked out.

Ash snatched his phone out of his pocket. “Do we need a bigger security team? It’s only three guys, Steel and his part-timers-”

“We’ll figure that out later,” Colt replied tersely, before calling everyone back to order. “Come on, we’ll leave it to them to sort out, for now, we carry the fuck on.” Colt’s voice was authoritative, it brought everyone back down, it brought order back into the room.

Jared cleared his throat. “So, the voting in women thing.” He tried to get things back on track, tried to defuse the tension in the room, tried to soothe Shadow with a huge hand on his head. “Okay, well, pros are-”

“Is anyone actually against it?” Ash interjected. No one spoke.

Jared cleared his throat. “I mean, most other MCs don’t... could cause friction with other clubs maybe?” he said quietly.

Ash pursed his lips.

Jared shrugged a shoulder. “I’m just saying, just trying to point out the challenges, not saying I don’t want it, ‘cause I do, okay, I think the club will be stronger for it-”

“Not sure the Guardians of Purity would love it, either…” Lyle spoke up. He sniffed. “Aren’t they more believing that a woman’s place is in the kitchen?”

“You are right Lyle, but frankly, fuck the Guardians of Purity. I hate that we work with them.” Colt spoke up, “So, apart from raising eyebrows amongst our potential business partners and associates, any objections?”

“Could get messy. What if a member, female, fucks a guy then we don’t wanna get into anything serious but they do?”

“Could still work like that, just the other way ‘round-” Ash pointed out.

“And the sweetbutts, what would they do?”

At that moment, someone burst in. Someone with a whole wave of noise. A wave of screaming.

Newborn screaming.

It was April, carrying baby Chase. Who was screaming at the top of his lungs. A little bundle of angry, red faced rage.

“Colt, I can’t, I just can’t,” she hiccuped. She was crying herself, one arm wrapped around Chase, one on her forehead.

“Kitten, what’s wrong?” Colt started, jumping up.

“He just screams, and screams, something is wrong, I can’t... Colt, I don’t know what to do, how to help...” The baby wailed over the top of it all. Shadow startled again and wiggled about in Jared’s hands. Colt came forward and put his arm around April’s shoulders.

And then his phone rang.

Ring, ring.

“Fuck,” Colt cursed. “Kitten, I have to take this.”

“Colt, I can’t do this, I need you-”

Ring, ring.

“Kitten, these aren’t the people you keep waiting, it’s the Armenians, it’s about our first ever gun run for them-”

“No, please, don’t go, don’t-”
