To be on the safe side, I flip back in the e-reader to the beginning of the last chapter I read.

“What a spell!”I read. His lips were so tender on hers that her knees had gone all soft. Just as she was about to grab onto him, Klara interrupted her.

The perfect spot to dive back into the tender love story between Sarah and Lorenz. Smiling quietly, I push the bookmark ahead a bit more to savor the kiss once more… Uhh… to read the kiss once more.

“You need a woman by your side. Just hiring a nanny isn’t enough!” Her nostrils flared, and Lorenz knew he had to be careful now not to unleash her full fury.

Oops, did I jump too far forward in the book now?No matter, the reading position fits perfectly, because the author has managed to replicate Kevin’s mom exactly in the character of the protagonist’s mother.

This was too much for Lorenz. With a jolt, he stood up and wished his mother good night.

I take a big sip of the sparkling champagne. With my eyes closed, I picture Kevin finally responding to his mother’s insulting stingers like this.

He desperately needed to cool down, so he went straight onto the big terrace. The icy air almost choked his throat. Nevertheless, it made him feel better. Soon, he felt refreshed enough to forget the trouble and finally talk to Sarah.

Miraculously, she suddenly appeared next to him.

Wow, how captivating this is written!I almost feel the coldness surrounding Lorenz with my own arms. I reach for the fake-fur blanket, snuggle in, and feel the author’s sentences quicken my heartbeat.

Sarah needs something from him: paper to implement a Christmas idea.

“I’ll be happy to show you where everything is stored. Let’s go inside, you’re freezing.” He took heart and put an arm around her shoulders. Her cheeks turned pink. He couldn’t help but smile at her.

The letters blur on the illuminated display. A smile appears in my mind’s eye and I dive deep into the images in my head.

The even perfection of full lips, tugged by the taunt of a smirk. A muscular arm is wrapping around my shoulders, powerful, promising protection.

Melting inwardly into the liquid center of a chocolate cake, I surrender to the hold. I raise my head and sink into a masculine, striking countenance leaning down to me in slow motion. Lips, already slightly open for a kiss. A somehow boyish smirk flutters around the mouth of…

…Philipp!

Or rather, of that darned Mr. Sandtmann… whom I actually wanted to drive out of my head by reading!

Shaken, I stare at the display. How the hell does the author know the confusing appearance of this outlaw? Who, in particular, told her about his infernal-dangerous-enticing charisma when he’s pleased with himself?

Only after blinking my eyes several times am I able to convince myself that there is nothing written in Kindle of the smirk on Mr. Sandtmann’s face when he snottily acted like my stupid and overusedOh my God!referred to himself. And not a word is said in the book about the promising insinuation in the amused glitter of his speckled eyes, either…

Suspiciously, I turn the e-book-reader in my hand. Was it a good idea to continue reading the novel? As stirred up as this morning’s appointment left me?

On the other hand: the author’s writing is captivating. Judging from the heat I’m feeling, my cheeks are just as pink as her protagonist’s.

I put the e-reader to the side and use both hands to fan myself until I can think rationally again. Then I switch on the device once more, which in the meantime has gone into the snooze position, and continue reading.

Fortunately, it’s a completely innocuous scene in which Lorenz helps Sarah find the paper she needs.

How sweetly, downright awkwardly the two of them bow and scrape around each other… Grinning broadly, I lift the champagne glass from the coffee table. I allow myself a small sip of the sparkling drink and recall the first phase of my infatuation with Kevin. After all, I’ve resolved to de-rust my feelings for him, which have become sluggish, by reading the book. Unlike the characters in the novel, who don’t even realize they are meant for each other, Kevin pulled the strings very vigorously back then…

His determination made quite an impression on me. I smile silently to myself. I couldn’t counter the broadside with which Kevin wooed me. When he wants to, he can be very romantic.

When he wants to…

Focused on the good emotions towards my boyfriend, I turn back to the book:

“…I’d like to get to know you better.”

Funny, Kevin addressed me with those exact words back at theFried Chicken Partyin Diedesheim.

Sarah, in the book, behaves considerably less hesitantly than I did. She confesses her sympathy to Lorenz quite bluntly.
