She gasped.

“Tiya Sood, you have completely captivated me. I think that day you did indeed put a hex on me because I am crazy about you. I love you, truly, madly, deeply and irrevocably. You have the perfect mix of sass and mischief that called out to me from the first time I laid eyes on you. Then I got to know you and learned how feisty and fearless you are and I fell harder. My heart saw you and wantedyou. It rebelled for you. I am yours yesterday, today and for all our tomorrows. Marry me and be mine please.”

After that first time, he hadn’t asked her again to marry him again. She was his, that was a given. They both knew it. She hadn’t needed another proposal from him. But now, standing here, listening to his beautiful words, the gorgeous set-up and the thoughtful planning he’d done to bring her here, to ensure she had the perfect, the most romantic and unforgettable proposal ever, made her love him even more. It was the first thing she’d told him about herself after she’d taken his name that long ago day atLa Soireeas her fake boyfriend.

Her throat clogged. “You remembered.”

“Sweetheart, I always listen to what you say and to what you don’t say too.”

She wet her lips and sniffed, swallowing down the wave of emotion crashing through her. She cupped his cheeks. “You know, my mom had always warned me to stay away from bad boys. She said they end up breaking your heart.”

His lips tipped. “Yet you’re here, and in love with me. Why?”

“Because I happen to like to bad boys especially those who have the kindest and warmest hearts hidden in their chests—like you.” She pulled him up and placed a hand above his heart. “I love you, Vihaan Rajpoot—my bad boy with a golden heart. And yes, I will marry you.”

“Yes?”

She gave him a brilliant smile and he put the ring on her finger. It fit perfectly. She stared at it for a long beat. She loved it. It was just what she’d have chosen for herself.

“Why an emerald though?” she checked.

“Because green is your favourite colour.” He tugged on the green beaded bracelet on her wrist. “And since you’re always wearing a touch of green, I figured you’d love this. Henceforth, you’ll always have something green and mine on you.”

Her eyes watered. She’d challenged him once, a long time ago, to find out for himself what her favourite colour was and he had observed her carefully enough to note that she did always wear a bit of green. God! He did listen to even what she never said aloud.

She gulped. “This, right now, is perfect. You are perfect. I love you.”

Happiness bloomed in her chest. She pulled his mouth back to hers, unable to stop kissing him.

“Are you guys done?” Aaryan called out.

“We do have a party to celebrate,” Shaurya added from his side. “There will be plenty of time for making out later.”

Tiya threw them a glare as they approached them, each of them carrying a carton of beer bottles in their arms.

“When we go for a honeymoon, we’re not telling them where,” Tiya complained. “I just want some alone and uninterrupted time with you, and your siblings just don’t get it. I hate that they’re always interrupting us.”

“We heard that,” Aaryan said.

“You were supposed to hear it,” Tiya grumbled.

Vihaan laughed, touching his forehead to hers. “Whatever you say, hellcat. But now, we have to go attend to our guests. We do have an engagement to celebrate.”

She tipped her jaw up. “What if I’d said no.”

“Then I would have asked again in a few days and then again and again until you said yes. I told you once before. I’ll be right here waiting for you, always.” He winced. “Thank you for not putting me through that dreadful scenario though. Now come, let’s meet our guests.”

She whirled around as people started arriving from the both sides of the beach, from the direction of the other villas. She noted how there were no boundary walls between the houses. The villas jutted out in such a way that the beach looked like their own private cove. And she loved it. Sheena and Rajiv entered with both their kids, Myra walked in with Avi and Neil and lastly, her parents arrived.

The sounds of the sea crashing in the distance mingled with the happy sounds of family and friends as they came to celebrate with them. It was the best sound in the world.

Vihaan watchedTiya interact with Neil and Avi, and his heart warmed. Today had been perfect. Tiya had always been his. She’d become his that very first moment he’d seen her; it was just that he’d taken a long time in accepting it. But now, there was no going back from her ever. She completed him, fully and wholly.

“I’m glad you listened to my advice,” Rajiv said from his side. He lifted a bottle of beer to his lips. “It’s so great to see you happy.”

Vihaan studied his friend. “You know, I don’t think I’ve thanked you enough for all that you’ve done for us over the years. And for all that you keep doing.”

“I agree.” Aaryan put a hand on Rajiv’s shoulder. “You’re a gift that never stops giving and we are grateful to you.”
