“Compliments will not get you anywhere, Mr. Luthra.”

He smirked. “A man can try.”

His driver turned the Rolls Royce to the left, and she frowned. “Why are we going to the mall?”

“Patience is a virtue.”

“One which you have zero of.”

“It’s true,” Dev accepted. “But this is not about me.”

“I don’t like it when you behave ambiguously.”

The car stopped at the mall entrance, and Avantika stepped outside, still grumbling. “Now what?”

He nodded to a security guard and ushered her inside. Her eyes rounded as she saw the lit ice rink in front of them.

“Are we going ice skating?” she queried. “Why? At this time? Isn’t the rink supposed to be closed by now?”

“This was the only time I could get the rink to myself. Come on.”

They quickly donned the skates, and he led her inside the rink.

She put one foot in front of the other cautiously. “I really haven’t done this in a long time... Actually, not since that night.”

“Me neither,” Dev said. “I never went there after everything went so wrong.”

“I couldn’t even bring myself to teach Neil to skate. Aaryan and Vihaan taught him.” She tried to relearn her balance on the skates. “Uh, Dev, I’m not sure I can do this.”

“Don’t worry. It’s like riding a bike. You never forget it. I’m sure it will come to you.”

He skated away from her faster and quickly reached the other end of the rink. “Come on, Avantika. Have you lost your touch?”

She skated to him, gaining confidence with every step. Soon, she was skating side by side with him.

“I’d forgotten how much I loved to skate.” Leaving his hand, she lifted a foot and spun in place. “I forgot how free it makes me feel, especially when it’s just you and me together like this.”

He smiled, remembering the similar words she’d uttered to him so long ago.

“I know that. Why do you think I’ve kept up my good impression with the management of this rink?”

She circled around him. “You said something like this to me that night as well. That night when you made me yours.”

He smiled.

“I want to try something.” She leapt in the air, doing a mid-air twirl and landed perfectly in his arms.

She laughed, the beautiful sound warming his chest.

“You caught me,” she said.

“Of course,” he replied. “I will always catch you. I won’t let you fall, ever…” he repeated his promise from long ago back to her.

She lowered his head to hers.

He stilled. “Uh, what are you doing?”

“Teaching you to kiss.”
