“Never broke a bed before,” she confesses.

“And I thought you were an expert in the bedroom,” I tease.

Her brows shoot up in shock. “Is that your way of diverting from the fact you have broken a bed before? Because if it is, I’m more than happy to tell you all about my experiences with other men. In detail.”

“Time’s up,” Toby announces a beat before he swings the door open.

“What the fuck, man?” I snap quickly, grabbing a pillow to cover Bri up.

“What? I’ve seen her tits plenty of times. I’m not about to suggest a trade. Jesus.” His eyes shift from mine, but instead of them moving to my girl, he ignores her in favour of the bed. “Fuck me, you really did break it. How? Those legs are almost as thick as tree trunks.”

“I’m just that good,” I confess, shamelessly pushing to my feet and walking naked toward my pile of clothes to grab my boxers.

“Here,” Toby says, throwing a pair of sweats and a t-shirt at me. “Daemon grabbed us some shit.”

“Are they back? Are Calli and the baby okay?” I ask in a rush, guilt knotting up my stomach that I allowed myself to get so lost in Brianna that I forgot about my sister and nephew.

“Our future queen and I are fine,” a soft female voice shouts from somewhere behind Toby.

“Thank fuck,” I breathe quietly.

“We’re heading home. Clean-up has been in, Boss has dealt with the cops, and the motherfuckers in the bathtub will be on their way to the basement for playtime any minute.”

“Playtime?” Brianna echoes behind me.

“I’ll let Nico tell you about that. Good work on the dead guy, though, Bri. He had no chance of surviving that.”

I glance over at my girl just in time to see the blood drain from her face.

“We’ll be out in a minute.”

Toby drops the overnight bag Brianna packed earlier just inside the room before he closes the door and leaves us to it.

“He’s right, Siren. You did so good.”

“I killed someone,” she says, her voice void of any kind of emotion.

“To save our family. It wasn’t premeditated or unnecessary. If you didn’t do that, any of you could be in that position now, or they could have taken all of you, treated you like they did Daemon and Ant.” I swear her previously pale face turns a little green at my suggestion.

“I’m so fucking proud of you. The guys are too.”

“It was Stella and Emmie really. They’re brutal,” she says, deflecting the praise.

“Yeah, they are a little terrifying when it comes to protecting those they love. I’m sure plenty would say the same thing about us. But I don’t think that’s a bad thing.”

“I never had that,” she confesses. “Growing up, no one would have fought like that for me. It’s… weird.”

“Well, it’s time you started getting used to it because all of us will fight to the death to protect you.”

She shakes her head. “I don’t want that.”

“Tough. You have it anyway. Come on,” I say, dropping her bag to the end of the bed that’s still standing. “Time to head home.” Her lips part to argue, but I cut her off before she gets a chance to say the words that I know are right on the tip of her tongue. “Don’t even think about it, Siren. After what’s happened tonight, I’m not letting you out of my sight.”

“I’m sure I can cope with that,” she concedes. “And I’m pretty tired.”

“Something tells me you’re going to be even more exhausted before I finally let you sleep tonight.”

“Big promises for an injured man, Nico.”
