“Daemon? How did Daemon know?”

“Brianna managed to call Calli.”

“Why Calli?” I ask, frowning. Surely if she were going to call anyone for help, it would be Jodie.

“No idea, man.”

“Fuck,” I hiss. “I fucking hate this.”

“Brianna is the only one with the answers,” Theo points out helpfully. “You’re going to need to stuff down your macho bullshit and figure out a way to get her to talk to you.”

“Of course you already know she kicked me out,” I mutter.

“We didn’t need to be told. It was pretty obvious what her reaction was going to be.”

“Just be glad you’ve got a bed. When I was kicked out in this place, I slept on a row of chairs for a week,” Seb reminisces.

“Maybe I’m just not as pathetic as you,” I counter as Alex pulls his phone out and taps at the screen.

“Pfft, I fucking doubt that. You were in here sulking like a little pussy when we turned up.”

“Yeah, about that. Why the fuck are you here?”

“Isn’t it obvious? To see your beautiful face.” Seb grins.

“Is it that bad?”

“Yeah, it’s that fucking bad,” Alex announces happily. “Excuse me,” he says before slipping from the room.

“Where the fuck is he going?” Theo asks while Seb keeps his attention on me.

“You haven’t looked?”

“No,” I confess. When I shuffled my way into the bathroom earlier, I made a point of keeping my eyes on the floor, although it had little to do with the state of my face and more to do with the regrets I’d find lingering in the depths of my eyes if I looked in the mirror.

BRIANNA

The door closing rouses me from sleep.

Just like before I closed my eyes, Jodie and Toby are sitting beside me, cuddled up on one chair.

I tried to tell her that I was okay, but she wasn’t having any of it.

They’re leaving tonight, though. Both of them need to sleep in their own bed, not the makeshift one they’ve spent the last two nights on.

If I didn’t already know that Toby was it for my best friend, then I would now, having experienced just a little bit of his support through this. He’s barely left her side, and I appreciate the fuck out of him for it.

First the truth about her father, then Sara, and now me. Poor bitch seriously needs a break.

Opening my eyes, I force a smile onto my face in greeting as Alex walks into the room.

If he were wearing anything else, it might take me a moment to figure out which twin it is, but something tells me Daemon wouldn’t be seen dead in a Spurs shirt.

“Hey, how’s the patient?” he asks, making his way over.

“Yeah, you know. Feel like I was slammed into the side of a building.”
