“Maybe tomorrow. I’m looking forward to our little shopping trip now,” she says, proving that she was watching me long enough to know exactly where we’re heading. “I need some new bras. Mine are all too small. And you’re just the guy for the job.”

Fuck. My. Life.

BRIANNA

“Another, please,” I say when the server comes over to take our empty glasses away.

After grilling me on what happened the night before, Jodie insisted we get out of the flat.

I wasn’t overly excited about stepping out of the building and returning to real life. It seemed like a good idea when I was safely locked away in their guest room, but as I stood at the front door, I was questioning everything.

“You want to go back to school on Monday, remember?” she reminded me as we descended the stairs, proving that the brave face I was putting on wasn’t fooling her for a second.

“Brianna,” she warns once we’re left alone in the bistro she selected for us to have brunch in. “You shouldn’t be drinking on your painkillers.”

“I stopped taking them,” I confess.

“What? Why?”

“Because they make me drowsy and I hate it.”

“Aren’t you still in pain?” she asks, making the aches throughout my body a little more persistent as she mentions them.

“Nothing another mimosa won’t fix.”

She glares at me. The look is so similar to the one Joanne has given the pair of us so many times in the past when we’ve done something stupid.

“It’s fine, Jojo. I promised I’d stay with you tonight, then tomorrow, I’m going home. It’s time.” And I really need to put some distance between me and Nico.

“I don’t like it,” she sulks as two fresh drinks are placed in front of us.

Immediately, I lift mine to my lips and take a sip.

Jodie sighs, aware that she’s not going to win, and slides her own drink closer.

My phone buzzes on the table and my stomach knots.

He’s been calling and messaging all morning. But I’m yet to respond to any of them.

Sure, his letter hit home in more ways than I want to admit. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to cave to him just because he spilled a few truths.

If that’s what they even are.

I wouldn’t put it past him to make up all kinds of bullshit in that letter just so I’ll give him easy access to my pussy again.

“Nico?” Jodie asks when I pick my phone up and turn it over.

My heart sinks when I find a different name staring back at me.

“Nope. Brad.”

“You really have them running around like lovesick fools, huh?”

“Neither of them love me, Jojo. They’re just missing an easy lay.”

“Brianna,” she chastises. “You’re more than that and they both know it.”
