“It doesn’t matter what they think. I’m focusing on what’s important from here on out. Me.”

“I couldn’t agree more with that, Bri. But do you really think that either of them will give up? How many calls and messages have you racked up from both of them since you woke up this morning?”

I mumble an unintelligible response, because I haven’t counted, and I don’t want to.

Granted, I’ve had a hell of a lot more from Nico than I have Brad. But still, I know he won’t just give up. I’m not going to have it that easy.

He hasn’t listened to a word I’ve said since the first night we hooked up and I told him it was a one-night-only thing; why should I expect him to listen to my unspoken words now?

“What does he want?” Jodie asks as I swipe the screen and read his message.

I turned all my read receipts off when I first put my phone back on the other day. I knew I was going to get messages, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to ignore them. My curiosity and nosiness were going to get the better of me, so I knew I’d be better off stopping them from seeing if I read them or not.

“To see me.”

“And?” she prompts.

“I’m not. Not yet, at least.”

“Not yet?” she quips, raising a brow at me.

“I’m going to have to face him one day and tell him we’re finally done. No more quick hook-ups and epic orgasms.”

“Why do I get the feeling you’re already mourning your loss?”

“He’s good, but he’s not worth the drama. Neither of them are.”

She stares at me as if I’m about to follow that up with something. A laugh, maybe.

“I’m done, Jojo. Going forward, I’m all about the vibrating friends and the smuttiest books I can find.”

“I give you a week.”

“Wow, your support astounds me,” I deadpan.

“I’m right and you know it. Now drink up. We’re hitting the shops.”

I groan. “I hoped you were joking about that.”

“Nope. I need some new lingerie for my man. He keeps ripping everything I own.”

“Nothing like distracting me from my vow of celibacy,” I mutter, downing what’s left of my cocktail and stuffing my phone into my handbag without replying to Brad.

“Aw, you can dress up for your vibrators. They’ll totally appreciate it.”

“Bitch,” I cough. Jodie throws her head back on a laugh before walking to the bar to pay for our brunch.

When we step outside, I find an Uber waiting for us, and before long we’re heading into the shopping centre.

She doesn’t immediately make a beeline for her favourite lingerie store; instead, we start wandering in and out of all the shops.

It’s just like old times. Only now, she can afford to buy anything she wants thanks to her boyfriend.

I’ve got a nice buzz going on after the mimosas, but it’s not going to be enough when she starts sexy lingerie shopping.

“What do you think?” Jodie asks, holding a dress up against her body.

“Hot,” I reply, barely looking at the dress in question.
