“Gwenn can take you to the basement,” Amara finally said. She knew that her sister-in-law could pull a few strings as the President’s Old Lady.

Cat hummed. “I was thinking the same thing.”

“You need to make him suffer.”

Cat laughed. “Look at you. Who knew that the sweet veterinarian assistant had it in her to ever hurt a soul?”

“I guess I’m more like my father than everybody thinks.”

The words tasted sour in her mouth. Her father had slowly turned into a monster that didn’t care about anyone but himself. Long gone had been the man who’d laughed at Amara climbing his back as he gave her a piggyback ride.

Cat grabbed Amara’s hand. “You’re nothing like your father, Amara. But there’s nothing wrong with embracing every part of you—even the dark. I should know because my darkness is the exact thing that saved my life.”

“Did Mud hurt you?”

Cat’s hand froze on top of hers. “He tried. I kicked him in the nuts. I ran from him, hid in the river before I killed two of his buddies and almost blinded a third.”

Amara’s mouth fell open. She knew that her friend fought in the club’s underground fight club, but this was insane even for her.

“Y-you actually killed a guy?”

Cat had a creepy proud smile on her face as she gave Amara’s hand a little squeeze. “Yep. Two, actually.”

“Oh, my God.”

“Every time I close my eyes, I’m back in those woods and hiding out in the river. The only thing that keeps me sane is remembering every little detail about how I murdered two of them before they had the chance to rape and kill me.”

Cat swept a tear from Amara’s cheek, proving again she was the strong one out of them two.

“Your brother gets me, Amara. He knows that I did it all to protect myself, but that in some fucked-up way, I also took pleasure in hurting them. And he’s fine with it. I think he’s even glad that I’ve discovered that side to me.”

“We’re a match made in hell,Treló korítsi.”

Amara glanced over her shoulder at Demon standing in the doorway with a tray filled with food and drinks.

“I hope mycrazy girlis hungry.”

A sparkle lit up Cat’s eyes as she watched Demon move across the room. “I’m hungry, but not for food.”

Amara watched Demon blush, as he probably felt uneasy about his younger sister watching them. Demon glanced over his shoulder at Amara who giggled at seeing her brother like this.

“I’ll check on you later, Cat. Much, much later,” Amara said with a chuckle as she stood from the bed.

The last thing Amara heard before she closed the door behind her was Demon calling Cat his Old Lady. Maybe miracles do exist. If Demon and Cat could make it after everything they’d been through, why couldn’t she make things work with Wolf?

Amara walked into Wolf’s room and found Zara, the dark-haired sweetbutt on top of the covers of Wolf’s bed. She instantly scanned the room, not finding Wolf.

Seeing the sweetbutt in her skimpy outfit, relaxing on top of the covers like she belonged in Wolf’s bed made her once again realize why she couldn’t make things work with Wolf.

“What are you doing here?” Zara asked with her perfectly shaped eyebrows furrowed.

Amara fisted her hips. “I can ask you the same thing.”

“I’m here for lunch.” Zara said with a catty grin.

“Let me guess...You’reWolf’s lunch?” Amara felt sick to her stomach even saying the words.

Zara pulled her long, dark brown hair into a ponytail as she said, “Something like that.”
