She tried to fall back asleep after he left, but it was impossible. Finally, feeling sorry for herself, she grabbed Squeaks and her fluffy blanket that Zander had bought her and moved to the sofa.

After learning how much she loved to play games, Zander had ordered her some smart games. They were games that made you think. But she didn’t feel like thinking right now. She just wanted to cuddle Squeaks and watch some TV. Finding reruns of one of her favorite cartoons, she settled in.

Or tried to.

There was still an upset feeling in her tummy.

Needing a way to soothe herself, she rubbed her thumb over her lip, then pushed it into her mouth. Her nose wrinkled. It wasn’t the same feeling she got from sucking on Zander’s fingers.

He’d be back soon. And everything would be fine.

There was something wrong.

She could feel it. Deep in her gut. She glanced down at her phone. She’d left Zander three messages since she’d spoken to him that morning.

He’d been gone five days. And she’d been doing okay up until now.

Okay, not great.

But she’d managed to get some sleep and while she might not be eating as well as she did when he was here, at least she wasn’t gorging on junk food.

Mostly because there wasn’t that much junk food in this place.

Needing some company, she wandered into the basement to find Miles and Webb sitting in front of a computer screen.

They looked tense and more worry flooded her.

“What’s going on? Is something wrong? Is it Zander? Has he been hurt?” She rushed over towards them, aware they were staring at her in shock. “What is it?”

She peered into the screen and felt confused. Why were they staring at Honey? And where was she? She looked to be in a kitchen. But it wasn’t the same one as they had here in the bunker.

“What are you looking at?”

“Honey,” Miles said, pushing his glasses up. “We’re keeping an eye on her.”

“Why?”

Webb stared up at her in concern. “Are you all right? Have you been getting enough sleep? Have you lost weight? Do you think she’s lost weight, Miles?”

“I’m fine. I haven’t lost weight.”

Miles studied her. “Maybe, but then I’m not sure what she looked like before.”

“Fuck, Zander is going to kill me,” Webb groaned. “We need to get you eating more. And sleeping.”

“I’m fine,” she told them. “It’s just hard to sleep without Zander. And I can’t have lost any weight, if anything, I’ve gained weight from all the ice cream. I just . . . have any of you heard from the guys today?”

She tried to sound casual. But she knew she’d totally failed when even Miles looked at her knowingly.

“I heard from them about five hours ago,” Miles said. “They were chasing down a good lead. They thought they were getting close.”

So they might not answer phones if they were busy. Okay, that made sense. Letting go of the worry in her gut, she drew up a chair and sat.

“Why are we watching Honey? Isn’t that an invasion of privacy?”

“If she didn’t want us to watch her then she shouldn’t have set up a meeting with Charlene at our house,” Miles mumbled.
