Also, she knew he was just protecting her.

Turning, she reached up and kissed him lightly. “Thank you.”

He kissed her back, his kiss far hotter and longer. “You’re welcome. But there’s one other thing I have for you.”

Something else? What had she done to deserve all of this?

Taking hold of her hand, helped her back into the bedroom. There, on her pillow, was another box.

This time it was a ring box.

He wrapped himself around her from behind. “You’re going to marry me, baby girl.”

“I am, am I?” she asked in a quiet voice.

“Yes. Problem with that?”

“Well, normally it’s custom to ask.”

“I’m not that stupid.”

She just shook her head. This was Zander. She didn’t expect anything less. Turning, she faced him.

“You’re sure, Zander?”

Reaching over, he picked up the box, then took out the ring. It matched her necklace. A gold band with a huge emerald surrounded by small diamonds. Holding up her hand, he slid the ring onto her finger. “You’re mine, Keira. And I’m yours. Forever.”

She threw herself into his arms, holding on tight.

“I’m yours. Forever.”

“Yes, you are,” he replied. “Come on, time for bed. Tomorrow, we’re going to start your shooting lessons. And some self-defense.”

“Wait, what?”

“Oh, did I forget to mention that?” He led her over to the bed.

“You did.” She frowned. “Zander, is everything all right?”

He helped her into bed and tucked her in. “Of course, why wouldn’t it be?”

“You just . . . I don’t know. You’re giving me a tracker and now you’re teaching me to shoot and giving me self-defense lessons.”

“I’ve been tracking you since you got here. Before, really. And I should have given you shooting and self-defense lessons before now. It’s imperative that you know how to protect yourself if I’m not here.”

“You’re going away again soon, aren’t you?”

“I think so. Once we figure out where Tiger is. I want to go have a chat with him.”

“You should just let it go, Daddy. Please.”

“I can’t. I can’t have a threat out there.”

She sighed. “I know.”

“We’re still trying to find your sister, too. I haven’t forgotten.”

“I know you haven’t.”
