“He’s like family?”

Tiger shrugged. “We go back a long way. He’s family by choice.”

“But he’s not blood. He’s not part of the Devil’s Sinners, is he? Are you really going to put his life before yours? Because that’s what happens if you don’t tell me. I’ll kill you.”

Tiger spat. “Don’t believe you.”

“No?” He flicked out his knife. “I guess we could start with a few toes, what do you reckon, Ammo?”

Ammo grunted. “Just try not to make a mess. I’m not cleaning up your mess like last time.”

“Hmm, that guy did bleed a lot, didn’t he? And scream.”

“Pissed himself too,” Webb added

“Do you know who I am? Who my father is?” Tiger snarled. But Zander could tell he was worried. “He’ll fucking kill you if you hurt me.”

“Let’s start with the big toe this time,” Webb said in a menacing voice. “It’s hard to balance without your big toe, did you know that?”

“Fuck! Fuck! Fine, I’ll tell you. Like you said, we’re not blood. I don’t owe him anything. He’s gone to Mexico. Working for the Saltillo cartel.”

“You hooked him up?” Zander asked.

“My old man did. Only the stupid idiot got caught with drugs. He’s in some prison down there. So, you going to untie me now?”

“Wow, not very smart is he?” Zander said to Ammo before turning back to Tiger. “You really believed me. No, asshole, I’m not untying you. You messed with someone who belongs to Sanctuary Ranch. I was never going to let you go.”

He turned and walked away as Tiger’s yells abruptly ended. Ammo had probably knocked him out. They’d deal with Tiger and Rosalind then it was time to go home.

To his girl.

Keira hummed to herself as she finished wrapping up the last of the gifts.

She was so excited.

This was the first Christmas where the magic of Christmas felt real. Like anything could happen.

Although for her, she’d already had all the miracles she thought she was going to experience. She couldn’t imagine wanting anything more.

Well, except to find Angie.

But part of her was wondering if she couldn’t find her for a reason. Shaking her head, she finished up and then rushed to put the gifts under the tree.

It was Christmas Eve and Zander had baked a heap of cookies, which she’d decorated. They were covered in icing and looked absolutely delicious. He had a lot of food ready to go for tomorrow. Stepping back, she looked over the huge tree that she, Webb, and Miles had decorated. The others had all sipped on eggnog and gave advice about where to place the ornaments.

Zander moved up behind her and slid an arm around her waist. “Do you like the tree, baby girl?”

“Daddy, it’s magical! I love it. I’m so excited.” She didn’t know how she was going to sleep tonight.

“Well, it’s nearly time for bed. So let’s go get you into your Christmas PJs.”

With some heavy bribes, they’d discovered Tiger had been telling the truth and Carl really was in a Mexican prison. He must have left for Mexico soon after Miles’ software had pinged him using one of his aliases.

Zander had decided to leave him there, deciding it was a fitting punishment. Apparently, the jail he was in was rough and only the toughest survived.

Zander had returned a few days ago from a job in Omaha. It had been hard, but while she’d always worry about him, she also knew that he could take care of himself. He’d told her how he’d helped this woman who was about to be attacked in an alleyway. Then he’d forbidden her from ever going into an alleyway on her own. Like that would happen, whenever she left the property she wasn’t allowed more than a few feet away from him.
