They drove through the small town of Bricks, Idaho, population twelve-thousand and eighty-four. It was cute and quaint. Nothing like where she thought her sister would end up.

Two months had passed since Christmas. And she started thinking that they’d never find her sister. But three weeks ago, a photo of her had popped up on social media. Miles had done whatever it was that Miles did to find people and had discovered where she lived.

Keira should have been overjoyed. But for some reason, she’d felt reluctant about coming here. Maybe it was because she didn’t know why her sister would be living in some small town in Idaho. Perhaps it was because she didn’t appear to even be looking for Keira.

She didn’t know.

But she had this awful feeling in her gut telling her that she shouldn’t do this. That she should let sleeping dogs lie.

They pulled up outside a really nice, cute cottage. This didn’t look like somewhere Angie would live. How could she afford it? But then, maybe she stole money from Bartolli.

“This place is hers?” she asked.

“No, it’s owned by a corporation. Miles is trying to track down who heads the corporation,” Zander explained.

She nodded, then let out a sigh.

“If you don’t want to go in, we can walk away,” Zander told her. “She’s obviously landed on her feet.”

“No, we’re here now.”

Heart racing, she waited for Zander to come around and lift her down. Both Honey and Webb were here somewhere. She didn’t try to look for them, though. She knew they’d be hidden.

Zander held her hand as they walked up the cute pathway. She trembled as Zander rang the bell. The cottage was white with blue shutters and a maroon-colored door. The door opened and a blonde-haired woman smiled at them warmly.

“Hello, can I help . . . oh God, it’s you!” She stared at Keira in horror.

Wow.

Of all the welcomes she thought she might get, she didn’t expect her sister to stare at her as though she was a zombie come to eat her brains.

“What are you doing here?” Angie asked as she glanced behind her searchingly. Who was she looking for?

“I came to see you. I’ve been trying to find you.”

“Why?”

“B-because we’re sisters.”

“No, we’re not. We’re not even related by blood.”

Keira sucked in a breath. Ouch. “Angie, you know that doesn’t matter. We were like sisters. Is this because I didn’t get you away from Bartolli?” She should have known she’d hate her. “I tried, I swear. And I’ve been searching for you ever since I heard that he’d died.”

“Well, I don’t want you here, and you need to leave. Yeah, I’m mad at you. I was stuck with that asshole. He hurt me. You were meant to get me out. That idiot you sent to help me was useless. He took the information I gave him and lost it! What the hell! Just go, Keira. Forget about me. I have no sister.”

The door slammed in their faces, and Keira stood there, trying to catch her breath. She placed her hand on her stomach. “Well, that could have gone better.”

“That bitch!”Honey paced back and forth. But Zander didn’t look at her. Instead, all of his attention was on the pale, shocked-looking girl sitting curled in an armchair while she hugged her stuffed mouse.

“I’ll go back there and teach her the way you treat family.” Honey stormed toward the door, but Webb stood up and blocked her. “Get out of the way.”

“No, you can’t go there,” Webb told her.

“Why not?”
