Zander started swearing.

“What is it? What does it mean?” Keira asked.

“It has to be him,” Webb said, sounding shocked. “No one else would use his name.”

“Who? What? What has a fox got to do with anything?” Keira asked.

“The Fox is an assassin,” Zander told her grimly. “I didn’t know he took jobs like this or had turned over a new leaf, but it doesn’t matter if he’s lying or not. If he takes Angie somewhere . . .”

“We won’t find her, will we?” Keira asked, her voice shaking.

“We found her once, we can find her again.”

“I don’t understand any of this,” Keira said. Zander held her against his body, not bothering with his own belt.

“Do you think there’s something he wants from us?” Webb asked. “He let us go, left us with a way to get in contact with him. There has to be a reason.”

“I don’t know,” Zander said. “But we need to figure it out.”

“I don’t get why he didn’t lock her away if she’s some insurance policy,” Honey said.

“The guy didn’t exactly sound sane,” Webb pointed out.

They pulled up outside the cottage.

“Honey and Keira stay here,” Zander ordered.

They didn’t protest. But even before he got inside, he knew that Angie was gone. He and Webb worked their way carefully through the cottage then met up out the front. Webb shook his head.

Fuck!

When he returned to the truck, he geared himself up for her disappointment, her tears. She sat there, just staring at him, tears rolling down her cheeks.

“I’ll find her, baby girl. If it’s the last thing I do. I’ll find her for you.”

He gathered her onto his lap and held her tight. The only thing he could do to comfort her.

She stared out at the huge house as they approached. “Wow, this place is beautiful.”

“I still think their security needs updating.” Zander shook his head as he drove past the big house and headed along a trail up the mountain.

“They live up here?” she asked, holding onto her seat as they bounced along.

Zander grunted. “Down there is the ranch and most people live in cabins down there. Up here is JSI’s headquarters. Kent lives up here.”

It had been a rough few months. Finding Angie, and having her basically tell Keira to get lost. Then a run in with a sniper, and possibly an assassin. They hadn’t heard anything from him since, so maybe he wasn’t this mysterious Fox. No one knew for sure.

However now, they were back in Wishingbone.

For a wedding.

Kent, Zander’s boss, was marrying his fiancée, Abby.

“You’ve never talked about Abby,” she said to Zander. “What’s she like?”

“Never met her.”
