“Oh. Well, I hope she’s nice.” Her stomach bubbled with anxiety. “You know, Max had a sister that lived in Wishingbone. He mentioned her a couple of times, but he never told me her name. Do you think it would be easy to find her?”

“Sure, remind me to call Miles. I’ll need his last name. Do you want to meet her?”

“I’m not sure. Maybe.”

He parked and came around to undo the harness on her seat. Yep, he’d gotten her a booster seat. She’d given up fighting him about it. Taking hold of her hand, he led her to some glass doors on a smaller house than the one down the hill.

Without knocking, he walked in.

“Um, Zander, shouldn’t you knock?”

“No. Why?”

Lord. Help her.

“Because we might—” a scream interrupted her, and she turned to see a heavily pregnant woman standing there, staring at them in shock. “Scare someone,” she finished dryly. “Hi, we’re not here to rob you or anything. Are you Abby?”

“Y-yes, who are you? What are you doing in here? How did you get in?”

The poor woman had gone pale and Keira was worried she was going to faint.

“Abby! Abby, what is it?” A handsome guy raced into the room, looking frantic. “Is it the baby?” He reached for Abby, then turned his gaze to them, his head jolting back. “Zander? What the hell are you doing here?”

“We’re here for the wedding. You invited us. Did you forget? That’s rude to invite someone then forget.”

“Zander!” She smacked her hand against his arm.

Kent moved his gaze to her, his eyes widening. “Keira, you’re here with Zander?”

“Of course she’s here with me. She’s my plus one. Although I thought it was rude not to put her name on the invitation.”

“Zander!” she scolded.

Poor Abby still looked like she was going to faint, while Kent appeared dazed.

“Hi, Kent. I hope it’s okay that I’m Zander’s plus one.” This was what worried her most. That Kent wouldn’t want her here.

That Eden wouldn’t.

What could she say to Eden to make things better? To apologize for the mess she’d made? It was eating away at her and she’d almost refused to come. That would have made Zander happy. He was keen on leaving her on lockdown since their run-in with that crazy guy. But she couldn’t hide all her life.

She despaired that they would ever find her sister again, even though Zander said he would never give up.

Kent’s face softened. “Of course it is.”

“It better be,” Zander said. “Keira is my fiancée. She is the only plus one I would bring. If I couldn’t bring her, then I wouldn’t come. Which I know would devastate you. It wouldn’t feel like a proper wedding without me.”

“I . . . I . . .” Abby said. She looked too dazed to get her words out.

“Um, Kent, maybe Abby should sit.”

“What? Shit. Sweet girl, come here. Sit down. Put your feet up. Damn it, Zander, you could have told me you were coming or knocked or something.”

“I didn’t know she was pregnant,” Zander said, studying Abby as Kent rushed into the kitchen to get her some water. It was sweet the way he fussed over her. “She’s not going to have the baby right now, is she?”

“No!” Abby said, looking hastily at Kent. “I’m not. I have ten weeks to go. This baby isn’t coming early.”

“It better not. If this wedding is too much for you . . .” Kent said warningly.
