Okay, why did she feel sad now? Why did she feel alone? Was that what it was about? Was she latching onto him because she needed someone in her life?

Because being alone was terrifying?

What was wrong with her? She needed to stop. She wasn’t going to just grab hold of the first man she saw. Especially this guy. In no way was he safe. He could still kill her as easily as protect her.

“I have to pee,” she muttered.

He nodded his head. “I know.”

Right. Great. And if she didn’t get to the toilet soon, she was pretty sure she was going to have an accident.

“Do you need help?” he asked.

“Nope. Been peeing on my own since I was two.”

He stepped back, and she attempted to stand. But she was feeling weak. Her arms were trembling, her hands were still tingly with pins and needles, and her ribs ached every time she moved.

She got part way onto her feet then slid back onto her butt with a cry.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

That really fucking hurt.

She waited for him to say something. But he just stood there, watching her.

“Can you not watch me?”

“You might try to escape if I don’t.”

“Because I’m really capable of making a run for it right now,” she snarked.

Okay, pain made her a bit grouchier than normal. That and the fact that her bladder had started screaming at her and she wasn’t sure she was going to make it.

“Would you like help now?” he asked mildly.

She stared up at him. She wanted to tell him where to go with his help. But she couldn’t. Because she really didn’t think she could go anywhere without some aid.

“Fuck.”

“Is that a no or a yes?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“Ask.”

“Are you kidding me right now?”

He folded his arms over his chest, giving her a stern look. “Ask.”

Ask. Sounded simple, right? But she wasn’t very good at asking for help.

“Will you help me up?” she asked reluctantly.

“What’s the other word?” he asked.

“I am not a child.”

“No?” His raised eyebrow suggested that she was acting like one.
