“Sex will happen eventually, Haley, don’t worry,” I replied, amusement in my voice.

Haley lifted her head to look up at me. I traced my fingertip down the bridge of her nose and kissed her forehead.

“Trust me, I’d rather stay here all day. But getting caught like this is not how I want to break the news to your family that we’re together.”

She sighed. “You’re right. You should go first, since you’ve already had your shower.”

I kissed her forehead, gliding my hand down her hair, down her back. Giving her cute ass a little pat, I retrieved my towel from the floor and rose to my feet. Haley tossed the tissues in the trash before adjusting her clothes until she was semi-presentable again. Her hair was still a mess, her skin flushed, and her sweater on the floor.

“I’d like to keep it a secret,” she said. “You and me. Just for a little while.”

“Sure.” I paused, considering Haley. She wasn’t making eye contact with me as she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. “Haley. Are you worried about something?”

Her gaze flicked up to me briefly before sliding away.

“I mean, besides Chase’s reaction when we tell him? Yeah. I’m worried that maybe…”

Haley glanced down at her hands and her voice dropped to a whisper.

“Maybe this is too good to be true and you’ll change your mind.”

I shook my head and came to stand in front of her. I cupped Haley’s face in my hands.

“There is no chance of that. I promise.”

A small smile crept across Haley’s lips.

“Okay,” she said softly.

I kissed her one last time. It was going to be hell on earth seeing her during the day, unable to kiss Haley as long as her family was around.

The tread of footsteps on the stairs signaled someone was coming.

“Go,” Haley said with a gentle shove to my chest. “Hurry.”

I squeezed her hand as I slipped out the door, adjusting the towel as I fled for my room. All I could do was hope that Chase was already asleep and I didn’t have to explain anything.

Over the next day or two, Haley and I risked a few touches here and there when no one was looking. Rarely were we left alone long enough for a kiss though. When I donned a coat and boots and headed out to the shed for firewood, Haley came tiptoeing after me in just her socks.

“Haley, what are you doing out here? You’re going to freeze.”

“Don’t care,” she mumbled before her fingers were tangled in my hair, her mouth clashing against mine.

She shivered and I wrapped my arms around her, holding her tight in an attempt to keep her warm.

“I can’t stand this much longer, Haley,” I whispered, clutching at her waist.

“I know, I know,” she breathed. “How are we going to tell them, Theo? Especially Chase.”

“Ripping off the bandaid is always best in my opinion.”

Haley groaned and dropped her head to my chest.

“He’s never going to let me hear the end of it.”

I chuckled, rubbing her back.
