The room filled with whistles and cheers, making everyone turn to look my way.
“What’s going on?”
“Liam finally seduced his professor!”
“They’re going out.”
“Liam’s got his omega.”
“You’re kidding?”
I shook my head. “No, I’m not kidding. I’m Waggoner’s alpha. Fact.”
“I never thought he’d notice you.”
That, of course, was Sean. I rolled my eyes. “Thanks for your confidence in me.”
“Hey, I didn’t mean anything by it. I’m just saying that you’ve been after him for months and it’s been hopeless. What happened? Was this after he was mugged?”
“Yes, it was after he was mugged. It was after my class so I was still around. I arrived a minute later.”
I wasn’t embarrassed any longer about what I’d been doing to make myself late, but I was annoyed at myself for taking those few minutes. If I’d been about a minute earlier, I could have stopped it from happening.
Of course, if I had stopped it from happening, Waggoner would never have let me into his apartment, so maybe it was a good thing after all. Or rather, something good had come from it.
Chris gave me a pat on my shoulder. His shoulder-pat hurt less than Sean’s did.
“I’m glad you were there at all. It all worked out in the end.”
“Yes,” I agreed.
Sean grinned. “Does he talk equations while you do it?”
“Fuck you, Sean.”
“Does he make you recite the periodic table before you can touch him?”
“What I do with my omega is my business.”
“That’s a yes,” said Sean. I couldn’t stop myself from laughing at him.
“Still none of your business, man.”
One of the others asked, “How’d you bag yourself a silver fox like that?”
“Just lucky, I guess.”
Some of the others jeered and whistled again. Coach came into the room, shouting, “What’s all this racket?”
“Liam’s finally boned his professor!”
“Hey! That’s my omega you’re talking about. Show some respect.”
Coach nodded. “Quite right. Now, you can start with some laps. That’ll give you time to think about how you speak about others.”
We all groaned.
“What was that?” asked Coach.
