I said nothing in return, still scanning the massive facility. There was no way he was inside this club. Very few people who didn’t live in New Orleans knew about it.Just relax and enjoy. Why was I having so much difficulty?

“I think we all need a hunk of a man like that,” Carolyn added. “Maybe he has brothers.”

“You have Mark. Isn’t he the cat’s meow or whatever you kept calling him?” Jasmine chided her, narrowing her eyes as she looked at me. I could sense she was concerned, but not for the same reason I was.

When Carolyn frowned, immediately sipping her drink, I was grateful I would no longer be the topic of conversation.

“He was cheating on me with his assistant,” she said.

“What a pig,” I told her.

She shrugged then adjusted her mask. “It’s better I know before we got married. Right?” The poor girl had already picked out her dress.

“Absolutely. You can find someone better, honey.” Amber put her arms around the shaken girl.

“I think I’m going to concentrate on work for a little while. Maybe Eden has inspired me. I allowed Mark too much control in my life and look where it got me.”

Carolyn didn’t mean what she’d just said. She was the girl voted most likely to get married, have three kids in the span of three years, and live in a perfect cottage with a white picket fence, a faithful Golden Retriever by her side.

“Menarepigs,” Amber said as she lifted her glass for a toast.

“Agreed,” Jasmine said. “But it doesn’t mean we can’t use them for a night or two.”

As the girls erupted into a round of laughter, I continued to see visions of Zorro’s face. Yes, the man was handsome, his mask unable to hide his insanely good looks. I just couldn’t do this to myself. I hadn’t told the girls the real reason I’d broken up with my ex. He’d been cheating too, only not with a buxom blonde in his office. The man I’d dated for barely two months preferred burly bikers to soft and feminine.

I took another sip of my drink. Then the air was sucked out of my lungs, every inch of my skin tingling. Zorro was here. The same crackle of electricity surged through me. Although I couldn’t see him, I knew. That wasn’t possible unless he’d been following me. Wait. Hold on. Finding out about the Garden of Eden gallery was one thing, but there was no way he’d discovered where I lived. Could he? No, I was being ridiculous.

The sensations rushing through me were invasive, forcing me to grab the edge of the table. What in God’s name was wrong with me?

“Let’s dance,” I said absently. If my instinct was true, maybe he wouldn’t see me in the strobe lights pulsing across the dance floor.

“That’s the spirit. Let’s go, girls.” Jasmine led the way to the pulsing floor.

I trailed behind, glancing over my shoulder twice. Maybe I was wrong.

After a few minutes, I fell into the music, enjoying feeling completely free for the first time in what seemed like forever. Maybe I’d been wrong about sensing his presence.

“Woo hoo! This is perfect,” Amber yelled over the thumping drumbeat.

“Yes, it is.” Laughing, I moved in a circle, twisting and turning. As a man approached, I stiffened.

“Would you like to dance?” The man’s voice was deep, but not nearly as much as Zorro’s had been.

When I turned to face him, I swung my tail on purpose. One dance wasn’t going to hurt anything, especially for a man dressed as Hercules. “I’d love to.”

One dance turned into three and when I finally touched his arm, giving him a nod of thanks, I expected the full court press.

“Another?” he asked.

“Maybe later.”

“Hmmm… Well, don’t be surprised if I buy you a drink.” He grinned before walking away.

I gave him a flick of my tail before heading back to the table. “I’m not twenty-two any longer.”

“Neither of us are. Hey, he wasn’t bad,” Amber said in passing.

“No, he was very nice.”
