There was still something about the situation that bothered me. Finding the man seemed far too easy. Unfortunately, he wasn’t someone I’d worked with, only my brother.

“I suggest we go ahead and have an impromptu meeting.”

“You got it, boss.”

Tomorrow I’d handle the issue with Wallace. As he drove, I tapped my fingers on the window trim. Maybe I’d make arrangements to take Eden to New York early, returning only if I needed to handle Rodriguez in a more savage manner.

“Why not allow me to handle this girl?” Jameson asked a few minutes later.

“Because she’s worth more alive than dead.”

“You like her. Don’t you?”

He was coming dangerously close to pissing me off. “She piques my interest.”

“I’m glad. You need somebody.”

I lifted a single eyebrow as I waited for his gaze to shift to the mirror. “Is that so?”

“Let’s face it, boss. You haven’t been happy. Why not have something for yourself? You see what that did for your brother.”

Chuckling, I knew he meant well. “You think a woman can soften my edges.”

“I don’t give a shit about your edges, boss. But you need something to keep from jumping off a cliff. I mean no disrespect.”

I stared at the window, barely cognizant of the activity in the street. If anyone could keep the demons at bay it would be Eden. “None taken.”

“You know I mean. You’re not happy.”

“Happiness isn’t in the cards for people in this life, Jameson. You should know that by now.”

“Yeah, I understand.”

I wasn’t certain how he could. Even though he worked countless hours, he managed to keep his wife and two kids out of the realm of danger. That was no small feat. I had respect for the man and his personal scruples.

“Where is this snitch?” I asked. There would be no patience for the asshole. He’d crossed a line and would pay the price.

“A pool hall.”

I almost sputtered. “I didn’t know they had such things in the Big Easy.”

“You know they got everything here, boss. It’s just down the street.” He pulled the case I always carried from under the front seat, easing it over his shoulder. The man knew me too well. My tastes in weaponry often changed. Tonight, the Glock and a silencer would do. I’d purposely left my weapons inside the vehicle, not because of the club rules but so as not to provide any hints to Eden until I was ready to expose the truth.

I grabbed the silencer, glancing from one window to the other. While the streets were still busy, the location where the snitch had been found was far removed from the usual crowds. Still, there was no need to cause any more of a scene than necessary.

Jameson drove by the establishment, nodding toward it. Then he turned on one of the cross streets and into a small alley, throwing the gear into park. “What do you want me to do?”

“Bring him to me.”

“If he resists?”

“Make sure he doesn’t.”

I waited in the car, amazed how quickly Jameson was able to accomplish the task. He had a knack with convincing people it was in their best interest to do what he said.

Only this time it wasn’t.

After the door was opened, the man dumped inside, Jameson slammed it shut, leaning against it in case the asshole tried to jump out.
