The icy calm of battle began to spread through my veins as I nodded once, then launched myself at the gobbelin without prelude.

Our clubs smashed together as she blocked me, but the weight and velocity of my body had unbalanced her. We tumbled to the ground, each rolling a different direction and coming up in a crouch.

She was better trained than the males I’d seen.

I palmed another knife and whipped it at her face, but she was quick enough to duck.

The metal blade bounced off the rock wall a few feet away, and she laughed.

I hopped up and went for her again, using the club like a broad sword, directing it with both hands for better aim. We clashed several times, each blocking the other before I got in one good hit on her elbow. Her grip faltered, and I smashed her club again.

The weapon thudded to the ground, and I threw my body weight into the next blow, slamming my club into her skull and crushing it against the rock wall behind her.

Her arms snagged my shoulders and wrapped my body as she died, clawing huge, deep scratches down my back as I screamed in fury.

An animalistic roar sounded behind me, and as I raised a knife and hacked into her bicep to free myself, I saw a blur of golden-brown fur streak behind me.

“Need some help?” Blaise asked, giving me the last bit of leverage I needed to get the gobbelin’s claws out of my flesh.

Whirling, I saw Luca barrel into another gobbelin, taking it down easily with his huge wolf form. He had matching claws, and although the gobbelin got in a few good whacks with its club, his fight was much faster than mine.

Luca roared again as he slashed through the gobbelin’s neck, and black blood quickly spread in a sticky pool around the body.

“Good boy,” Blaise called teasingly, although she was thoroughly checking the area. “All clear.”

“Fuck, that hurt,” I complained, dropping the club and rolling my shoulders back. I could feel my skin pulling against my tunic - I needed medicine, and fast. Hopefully, gobbelin claws didn’t have anything poisonous on them. “Where’s Kas?”

“I’m here,” he called, his voice weak as he exited the cave. “I have no idea what happened back there. It was like I got hit with a sleeping spell.”

“I think I have an idea,” I said, frowning as something clicked in my mind.

Luca shifted back, smirking at me when I paused for a long moment to appreciate his nakedness. “The night Vento brought the gobbelin, my stomach had that crazy wound. And both times I’ve seen gobbelins in here, it started to burn and itch again.”

Of course, I knew it also had something to do with theBook of Ice, but I couldn’t ignore the fact that the itching and burn happened every time a fucking gobbelin was near.

Kas’s eyes went wide as I made the connection for them. “And I passed out that night. Fuck me, I’m going to be such a liability.”

“Why would he pass out, though? That still makes zero sense,” Blaise said, circling around behind me to check my wounds. “Shit, girl. This is not pretty.”

I groaned as she peeled away my ripped tunic. My guys hurried to grab water and a fresh cloth, and I gritted my teeth as Blaise cleaned my back.

“You’re healing a little already, though,” she said, sounding much more confident. “Maybe some blood would help,” she added, pointing to Kas.

He nodded quickly, pressing his wrist to my lips and groaning lightly as I sank my fangs into his vein.

“Don’t take too much - he might faint again,” Luca teased, offering his wrist with a smile that was halfway between shy and smirk.

Thinking he had a point, I licked Kas’s wound closed and drank deeply from my wolf, too. I could feel the pain receding from my back, and my stomach felt fine again. Energy began to filter through my body as I released Luca too.

“Next time, save me one to fight,” Blaise said cheerfully, picking up the two clubs from the dead gobbelins. I glared down at the dead female, remembering how she’d known who I was. There was no reason to keep that a secret, either.

“I’m pretty sure you’ll get your shot. I think they’re looking for me,” I blurted, and all three of them turned to look at me. I described the female’s reaction to finding me and how she’d called me princess.

“Fuck me,” Kas said, scrubbing at his face. “Do you think Merden sent them in here?”

“Vento did accuse her of helping the gobbelins. Giving them the relics. She could have easily given them your likeness,” Luca pointed out. I cracked my neck, wishing for the millionth time that I could just march into the palace and end that cunt.

“They’re going to keep coming for me,” I said, my voice low.
