“But you did today?” Whitney asked, her eyebrows wiggling. “Tell me you got his number at least.”

“I did.”

“Woohoo,” Whitney said.

Ben lifted his arms. “Woohoo.” And did a fist pump and they both started to laugh.

“What was that?” she asked.

“He’s watching his father during football games. Two peas in a pod.”

“That is adorable,” Gillian said. She pulled her phone out. She needed to get this on video. There was so much she missed now and hated it. “Ben. Woohoo.”

Ben lifted his arms, part of his sandwich in one and yelled, “Woohoo.” The three of them laughed and Ben did it two more times while she got it on video, then he found his sandwich more interesting.

“Back to Rick. Nice strong name. Tell me more,” Whitney said.

“He lives a block over. He walked back with us so that Ben was occupied with George and could stay awake. He’s new to the area. Just moved here from California.”

“Surfer dude?” Whitney asked.

“No. Dark hair and eyes. Tall, built nice.”

Whitney grinned. “But he’s a patient of yours?”

“Nothing major,” she said. She couldn’t say and wouldn’t. “He’s from Glens Falls originally. His sister lives in Paradise Place and he moved back because she’d married and has a one-year-old.”

“Masters, you say,” Whitney said, moving to get her laptop. “I’m going to be nosy and check my database of names quickly. That does sound familiar. The house around the corner sold not more than two months ago. Ruby gave me the information. Beautiful house. It’s big. Only a few years newer than mine.”

She was figuring Whitney’s house to be around ten years old or so. “It did seem big. More than what one person would need, but he said it was just him and George. Who he got yesterday.”

“Putting down roots then,” Whitney said as she started to punch keys on her computer. “I know there was another Masters at some point, but I can’t find it. That’s odd.”

“His sister is married now. I think he said her name was Robin?”

“Here it is. Robin and Brian Dawson. It was Robin Masters. She updated her information when she got married. I love when the residents do that. They don’t need to, but when I send out information on the development I like to get it addressed properly.”

“Don’t suppose you know anything about them,” she asked. Gillian didn’t normally do that, but for some reason she wanted to know what she could.

“Sorry,” Whitney said. “They’ve only lived here two years. This past summer might have been the first picnic they’ve been to together since it looks like the information was updated last fall.

“He said his niece just turned a year, so maybe they didn’t go last year if she was pregnant?” she asked.

“No clue,” Whitney said. “I do try to go around and talk to everyone or introduce myself, but it’s not always easy with people moving everywhere. It was possible I was introduced but just might not remember exactly if I didn’t talk to her much that day. Ruby would know more I’m sure. I put a mark next to their name if she sold the house. She sold both of their houses.”

“It’s fine,” she said. “I know what Rick does for a living. He has my number and we talked about getting dinner. I’ll see if he reaches out to me.”

“Why do you have to wait to see if he reaches out to you?” Whitney asked. “You take the first step.”

“What?” she asked. “I can’t do that.”

“Sure you can. I did with your brother. Both times.”

She laughed. “Really?”

“Yep. I knew what I wanted in high school and pursued him. Then after my fire alarms went off and he showed up here over a year ago, I had to seek him out to find out more. I brought pizza to the firehouse.”

“I didn’t know that,” she said.
