Why is she assuming someone is joining me? Can’t a girl eat alone these days? “I am not waiting for anyone.” I disguise the annoyance in my voice and smile at her.

“Oh, sorry.” I can see judgement on her face. “I will get your drink for you.”

I thank her through gritted teeth, and she heads off. I sit awkwardly, looking over the menu. I can feel a couple of people staring at me. I chose to ignore them.

The waitress reappears with my drink, and I place my food order with her—a bowl of mixed fruit. Tomorrow I will order breakfast through room service.

I get lost in my head. I still have no idea where I am going to live. I refuse to stay here until I receive my first pay from starting work at Ezra’s company. I Googled this hotel last night, and it costs a damn fortune per night. Though, I have a feeling Ezra isn’t going to agree with me.

My food arrives at my table. “Can you tell me your room number, please? We need to make sure you are staying here. It is company policy,” she asks, setting my food down.

“Room 622.” I show her my key card.

“Thanks. Enjoy your meal.”

I don’t know if she was being truthful or if she sensed I didn’t belong here. Either way, it makes me want to stick to room service even more.

No matter how badly I want to leave, I don’t want to rush breakfast. I take my time to enjoy it. The fruit is fresh, sweet and delicious. I may need to order more to my room later. It doesn’t take me too long to finish because it isn’t a massive bowl.

Strolling through the hotel I find the pool and sauna easily enough. Signing in I plan to swim first then treat myself to a sauna. I am determined to enjoy myself. It is quiet, which is good. I can enjoy it more because I wouldn’t have stayed long if it was too busy.

A swim first, then a sauna sounds like a plan.

* * *

I swam for a good hour before coming here to relax in the sauna. It is roasting and making me sweat, but it feels damn good. No one else is in here with me, which is a bonus because I can make it as warm as I want without worrying about anyone else. I could stay here for hours, but I will limit my time because I don’t want to end up passing out.

I close my eyes, resting back against the bench. I need this today. My body needs to destress and it isn’t often I have opportunities to do this to help with it.

The door opens a couple of minutes later, and I hear someone come in, much to my dismay. I open my eyes but can’t see the person due to the steam in the room.

Suddenly, I feel a presence right next to me. Why do they choose to sit so close? I don’t know why since there is plenty of space and they could sit anywhere. It makes me feel uneasy. I scoot further along, putting a distance between the stranger and me, but they move closer.

I hear a familiar chuckle. “Are you trying to run away from me, angel?”

“Ezra?” I ask, confused.

“Yes, sweetness, it’s me,” he says, resting his hand on my bare thigh, causing a shudder to run through me.

I slap his arm. “Don’t scare me like that, Ezra,” I complain, clearly annoyed.

“Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. I went to your room first, but you weren’t there. After some searching I found out where you are. I had to buy some swim shorts at the shop so I could look for you. I saw you coming in and followed.” He massages my thigh.

I whimper, pressing my thighs together. I gather myself after a moment, crossing my legs over, and causing Ezra to remove his hand from my thigh.

“Shouldn’t you be at work?” I ask, still slightly pissed at him for last night and for not contacting me this morning.

“I went to the office for a couple of hours this morning, but I needed to see you, so I left. Bright eyes, I am so sorry about last night. I couldn’t shake Bella off. Are you still upset with me?” I can hear the nervousness in his voice. He rests his hand over mine, linking our fingers.

“Did you fuck her?” I blurt out. I was only supposed to think it, not say it aloud.

Ezra abruptly pulls away from me. “Why would you even ask me that, Alana? I promised you I wouldn’t.” His words are strained, sounding shocked I even asked him such a question.

“I know you did, Ezra. I am sure you meant it at the time, but I have seen Bella. She is gorgeous, and there was obviously something there between you at one time. If she tried hard enough, she could have seduced you.”

I hate sounding like a crazy, jealous girlfriend, but I am positive anyone in my position would ask the same thing.

Ezra jumps to his feet. “So much for trusting me, Alana. Good to know how much faith you have in me.” He whimpers, walking away.
