“So, what are your thoughts, bright eyes? Do you still want to join my team, and if so, when do you want to start?” He smiles.

I appreciate him letting me be flexible for the sake of my classes too. “Yes, I would love to. I can start on Wednesday, or would it look less suspicious if I start a week from today?” I don’t mind when I start, but next week would give me more time to prepare and make sure all my study is caught up on so I can work more hours.

Ezra smiles brightly, resting his hand on my knee. “Great! That makes me happy, beautiful. You can start Monday.”

“Perfect.” I want to kiss him, but I can’t risk it, especially with his office door open, anyone could walk in at any given time.

He squeezes my knee. “We should celebrate. How about tonight I come to the hotel and bring dinner with me? I can get it from that Italian place you like, and some champagne. I can stay with you tonight, also.”

“You can?” I beam, totally excited I can have him to myself for the night.

Ezra quickly pecks my lips. “Yes. I am all yours.”

“Yay!” I celebrate.

Ezra chuckles, booping my nose. “You’re cute when you’re excited, sweetheart.”

I didn’t think I would see him tonight because I thought Bella would be around, but I guess I was wrong. Bonus for me.

I give him a dorky smile. “There is always excitement when snuggles are involved.”

“Who mentioned snuggles?” he teases.

I pout at him and put my best puppy dog eyes to work. “Mean! Don’t bother coming then if there isn’t any.”

He laughs loudly, shaking his head at me. “Fine! You win. There will be plenty of cuddles.”

I always win, well, at least ninety per cent of the time anyway. “Of course, I do,” I say slyly.

“Oh, don’t be so smug. Drink your coffee and shh,” he demands.

I smirk. “Yes, sir.” I do what I’m told because we still have a lot to get through and I am sure he needs to get back to work.

Enteringthe restaurant I pre-ordered our meal from, I smile politely at the front of house staff before heading over to wait for the food. Hopefully, it won’t take too long because I was hoping to be at the hotel by six. It’s now closer to eight since I got held up at work. I take my cell from my pocket to text Alana.

Hey, angel, I’m just at the restaurant now, waiting for our order, so I shouldn’t be too long. Can you order a bottle of champagne from room service, please, and ask for plates and cutlery? X

I forgot to order a bottle when I called our food order in, and I can’t be assed stopping somewhere else to pick up a bottle.

Okay. See you soon, handsome. Yes, I can do that xx

I put my cell away, waiting patiently. There’s a handful of other people waiting too.

It has been a long day, and all I want to do is get back to the hotel and spend my night with Alana, to make up for the shitty day I have had since I saw her earlier. I’m glad she still wants the job.

“Ezra?” I hear from behind me.

Why does that sound like my mother? She and my father don’t come to this restaurant. I’d rather not see either of them right now because they will start asking questions because they know Bella is doing her own thing. Shit! I’ll need to come up with a good lie.

I take a deep breath, put a smile on my lips and turn around. My mom and dad are sitting at a table only a couple of feet away from me. My mom motions for me to come over to the table. How did I not notice them when I entered? I would have avoided them if I did.

“Mom, Dad, what are you doing here?” I ask.

“We fancied a change. Why are you here? You aren’t usually in this part of town?” she asks.

“I’m visiting a friend, just picking us up dinner.” I lie. I hate lying to my mom, but I can’t exactly tell her the truth.

My dad raises a brow at me, seeming to be studying me a little too closely. “You have a friend around here?”
