I don’t mean literally.

I mean, my whole mind is coated in his anxiety. His fear. His sense of duty.

All my guys, even Rook, turn to him.

What’s going on?Rafe asks him in the shared link.

Drago’s staring at his watch.

It just blew through Vancouver and Kelowna. It’ll be here any minute.

Chapter25

Wendigo

No.This can’t be. I thought…

I thought we’d have more time.

Why now? Why here?

“Emilia, whatever you’re gonna do, you need to wrap it the fuck up,” I say, and the witch’s eyes snap to mine.

They’re completely white. No iris at all.

“Emilia! The goddamn scourge is here, right now. Finish thisnow!”

Lily, Sunny, and Eden, who’d been mingling with the remaining wolves until they all face planted on the polished concrete, take up defensive postures behind Emilia, pushing my guys to the side.

Lily touches Emilia’s shoulder with both hands and stares at me over the witch’s head.

“You can do this, Em. You’re almost there. Don’t get caught up in the weirdness of the new link she just made, OK? Just focus on pulling that plane out of this wolf and putting it back where it belongs.”

Emilia’s brow creases, and she lets out an enormous grunt that doesn’t seem like it could come from someone so small.

“Focus, Em. Just concentrate on the job,” Lily says.

“Rafe, get the wolves to safety,” I say out loud.

“In here is our best bet. I won’t have them running down the mountain to their cabins with the scourge on the loose.”

Drago steps away from the circle to face the remaining wolves. “Push everything you can in front of the windows and doors. Make this place a fortress.”

“Why?” a concerned beta asks.

“We have to give the witches enough time to get their magic out of Willa. If the scourge interrupts, it might be lost forever.” Rooks says as he magically welds doors and windows shut.

The remaining wolves move the furniture around, and something starts happening in my middle.

A tug.

Like a hook right in my belly button pulling me toward Emilia.

Likely the witch magic going back to its rightful place. It’s only mildly uncomfy, but along with the nausea and disorientation the spell already causes, I’m feeling pretty out of it.

I tuck my arms around my torso and hope for the best. Hope Emilia gets it out of me before the Wendigo shows up.

Rook shoots a spark of dark purple magic to the ceiling. It coats the walls in purple for a moment before flashing into nothingness.
