“I thought so too,” King agrees. We hear footsteps, and the voice introduces Laura to Andrei before dismissing himself.

“That’s him, Umbra,” Alexie states.

“What the fuck!” Marcela shouts. “Get her out of there now!”

“We don’t move,” Stryker demands. “The best chance of her coming out safely is for us to not intervene.”

Silence falls over the team until we hear Andrei telling Laura all about the space and that it’s not much, but it’s cheap. He explains what the rent will be and that it’ll cover all the utilities. He also goes on to tell her that he’s meeting with a contractor later this afternoon for a direct entrance into the apartment. Until then, she is not allowed to dwell or hang out downstairs at all, in and out only.

“Why is it available all of a sudden? Did something happen here?” Laura smartly asks.

“No, I have been staying here. But business is calling me back to New York, so I have to leave soon,” Andrei replies.

“Well, I’m very interested. If you can wait a few days, I’ll be in touch by the weekend. Thank you for your time,” Laura says.

She hurries outside and walks to her car, pulling out and driving past the car the team is in without slowing down so as to not be suspicions. The team has everything they need since Laura was mic’d up. Marcela calls Laura, putting it on speakerphone, so we know she is safely on the drive back to the safe house.

“Did you recognize the man who opened the door?” Stryker asks Laura.

“No,” she answers immediately.

“Okay, do you have any idea where he went? We didn’t see anyone leave the building while you were in there?” he questions.

“No, I have no clue. I never saw him again after he escorted me to Andrei and excused himself from the room,” she informs us.

“That’s okay, we got a lot of good information today. Thank you so much for risking yourself to help us out, Laura. We owe you big time. Let’s all head back to the safe house for the rest of the…well, I guess it’s daytime now,” Stryker states.

Hanging up, the team is heading back to the safe house so we can start forming a plan to take Andrei down.

Nat

I’msittingintheliving room with Conrad and Katia, waiting for the rest of the team to return. After a few minutes, headlights brighten up the room, and I jump to my feet.I can’t wait to get a plan in place and take down these fuckers.

Stryker enters first, followed by King and Alexie, who are arguing about a knife-throwing competition. I can only roll my eyes at these two and their overly competitive nature toward one another. “In the dining room, let’s get this started,” Stryker commands as he walks past us and towards the dining room. We all follow.

Conrad takes his usual spot beside the head of the table to the right of Stryker, so he can work the projector. I take a seat next to Conrad, with Katia on the other side. Alexie sits next to Katia, and King sits across from me. Looking around, I notice that we are not a full team. Just then, I can hear Marcela and Laura in the hallway arguing with each other.

“You got lucky,” Marcela says to her as they make it to the doorway.

“I wanted to help,” Laura replies to her, “and you risk your life to save people all the time.”

“This is different,” Marcela’s tone grows more direct. “You are not trained to handle these situations. Do you even have any idea what kind of monsters you were alone with?” Her attention moves to Stryker as they enter the room. “And you should never have let her be a part of this. This will only put a target on her back,” she argues, her voice getting louder.

“Sit down, Marcela,” Stryker commands, but Marcela doesn’t budge. She crosses her arms and cocks her head to the side, still looking at Stryker.

“If you want to be pissed at someone, then be pissed off at yourself,” he tells her. “I told you to keep distance between you and Laura until this is done, but then she’s at the house. You didn’t want to follow orders, and THAT is what will put a target on her and anyone else. Now, sit down so we all can go over a plan to make sure that we get our targets.”

Marcela lets out a huff but drops her arms and takes the seat next to King. She leans over and pushes the chair next to her back. “You might as well sit here since we’re letting everyone join the team now,” she says to Laura.

Laura moves forward with a big grin on her face and sits next to Marcela, mumbling, “I’m happy to join.”

“Okay, so now that everyone is he–” Stryker stops. “Where’s BJ?”

I slouch down in my chair a bit.Oh, he’s not going to like this, either.

Stryker’s eyes move to me. “Something you would like to share, Little Fox?” he asks me.

“So,” I start, “there was a curtain fiasco at her and Lane’s house that she needed to attend to.” Stryker’s eyes widen as he looks at me.He is way more than mad now.“She swore it was an emergency,” I try to cover for BJ because he told her to stay at the house.
