Owen shifted, rushing toward her and snapping his teeth at the other wolf. It backed away, giving Reika a moment to collect herself. She turned, looking over her shoulder, seeing five wolves, each snapping their teeth at her, ready to kill.

She shifted, needing to be at her full strength. Owen rushed at a wolf, and they all stepped back, giving them a little distance.

She growled, but her stomach clenched, and a sharp pain rolled over her body. Reika had to back off and took a step behind Owen.

She watched Connor shift and stare daggers at Owen. His brother pointed an accusing finger at Owen. "You've dishonored the family," Connor said, looking at Reika. "And for something so worthless and disposable. How far you've fallen, Owen."

Owen shifted, standing directly in front of Reika in a protective stance. "Don't!" Owen growled, taking a step toward Connor. "You wouldn't even come close to understanding what loyalty is, Connor. The only reason you're still barking up Father's ass is that I'm not willing to. You're only second best, and everyone knows it."

Connor shifted and lunged at the same time, and Owen followed suit. A loud crash filled the air as they bit at each other, snapping their teeth. Their growls and ripping of fur filled the air, making Reika cry out.

She tried to stand her ground as the others joined in, running at Owen's legs. She growled, snapping her jaws and biting into one's back legs that got too close.

Blood splattered the ground, and the fight only grew. Reika felt weak, and her body was fighting her as she stayed in her wolf form. She felt dizzy and lowered back. She didn't understand what was going on.

Three wolves were thrown aside courtesy of Owen, but there were still too many. Owen couldn't keep up the pace.

Reika took a step back as worry hit her hard. If she didn't get help, they were going to kill Owen.

Two wolves turned toward her, and she backed up. She needed help, and so she ran. She rushed, knowing it was wrong, but it was her best shot. If she didn't, Owen would die.

She raced through the forest and howled out for help. Hoping, praying that someone, anyone heard her.

She rushed over a log, but a shock of pain hit her, forcing her to the ground. The wolves following her grew closer, and she knew she was dead.

Just then, a sudden high-pitched yip hit the air, and Reika looked over her shoulder, seeing seven new wolves. One looked at her, wearing a concerned look. Still in wolf form, the stranger spoke through shifter telepathy. You look like you could use some help.

Yes, she replied in the same manner. She nearly felt tears bloom. She looked at them, pulling herself off the ground. You're from …

Blue pack, one said, shaking his head. But we can talk later. Your friend is in trouble. I smell blood.

Owen!

They turned, heading in the direction she had just run from. Her heart was pounding, and her head spun. What was going on with her?

They broke from the forest into the clearing with the cabin to find Owen bloody. He and Connor were the only ones going, but Connor was getting the advantage now. As they grew closer, Connor pinned Owen, going for the win.

Another wolf rammed them, knocking Connor a few feet away, giving Owen room to gasp for breath. Reika stopped next to him, fear hitting her. Owen had blood all over, and she could see the deep bite marks that littered his body. She begged him to shift, but he shook, unable to.

Please, she pleaded, looking over her shoulder. The group had scared off the Raff pack, which was great, but she had a new problem on her hands.

Owen needed medical attention now, or he was as good as dead. Her heart sank as she had no idea what was going to happen.

Owen, please, you need to shift. He needed to. How else were they going to heal his wounds?

Owen shook his head.I can't.

Someone stopped next to her.He needs to be seen by a shifter doctor.

Sure does, another sighed.Soon.

Reika looked at them. Please, help us. We were just looking to leave our packs, and everything went sideways. Please.Reika hated to beg, but she had no other options. This was her last one.

TWENTY

OWEN

Owen didn't remember much about being picked up off the ground and carried. He just remembered talking and Reika's voice begging him to hold on. He remembered how hurt she sounded and how afraid she was. He could feel her emotions bouncing all around.
