"You don't," she said. "You don't understand what I'm going through. This is my child, Uldof. With my blood and tears, I made him, I held him, and I love him. That's my son."

She watched his face soften, and she swallowed. "They have my son, Uldof. You're nephew. He's not even a day old. How can you just stand by knowing they have a member of the Lovell family?"

Uldof's face fell, and it was like a wall collapsed inside him. Reika wiped at her tears. "I have to go. You either let me go, or I'll put you on your ass and leave after. Don't think I can't."

Uldof stepped toward her, wiping at her eyes. "All right, but you must be careful." He cupped her cheeks, looking at her like he had when she was little. "And if either you or my nephew are harmed in this, I will kill each and every person in the Raff pack personally."

It was like a spark of possibility lit in Reika's heart. Uldof gave her a quick hug before he stepped back, allowing her to slip past him. She rushed outside and shifted as soon as she did. She ran through the pack, making her way past the gates out to the open road.

She could smell Owen's path and hurried after him. The last thing she wanted was for her to find him dead because she was too late. Owen was her life, and if he was gone, there was no way she was getting her child back.

She ran through trees and over logs. She followed his scent until she finally made it to the Raff pack territory. She stopped just outside the border, watching as Owen rushed right past it. He didn't stop, and he didn't bother looking for guards. No, he ran right on in. She swallowed, knowing he had only one thing on his mind … their son. She knew she needed to get there with him. She needed to stand with him to get their son back.

Owen

Owen enteredinto the Raff realm, not bothering to give a shit to look around. He came here for one thing, and one thing only … his son.

"Owen!" a sharp yell of his name stopped him cold in his spot. He looked over to see his father standing five feet away from him. His father seemed to have aged over the course of several months, but he didn't bother saying that.

He looked at him with anger. "Why are you here? You were warned not to come."

Owen growled, speaking through family telepathy. That was before you stole something that was mine. Give me my son!

Dernet rushed at him, shifting before he slammed into Owen, knocking him back a few feet.

Owen tried to go around him, not wanting to fight him. He just wanted his son. He didn't want anything else.

Owen could tell his father meant business and that he would kill him if it came to that. But Owen couldn't say he would do the same.

You were warned, Dernet growled, snapping his teeth at Owen's front legs. Owen moved back, narrowing his eyes.

You took my child! You ripped my child away from his parents. Don't think I'm going away so easily.

You're just asking for death, his father snipped, rushing at him once more.

Owen moved to the side, allowing his father to rush past him. He growled.I don't want to fight you, father. I just want my son.

Owen didn't want to fight or kill his father, the alpha. He didn't want any of this. He just wanted his child.

I'm only asking for my son back, and then I will leave. You won't see me again.

Dernet rushed at him, and their bodies collided. The snapping of teeth and scratching of paws filled the area before Owen yanked himself free.

Give me my son!Owen roared.

Owen!Hearing his mate’s voice in his head, Owen looked over his shoulder. He felt his heart stop beating when he saw Reika running toward them. He frowned. He had told her to stay back. He didn't want her in harm's way. He thought her brother could keep her out of harm's way, but it appeared it didn't last very long.

Owen! Stop! Both of you! It doesn't need to be like this.Reika had tears flowing as she ran at them.

Dernet used the moment while Owen was distracted and rushed at him. Owen snapped his gaze back to his father just as his father's teeth sunk into his shoulder.

Reika screamed louder, a blood-curdling yell. Owen shook himself free and bit into his father's shoulder. His father pulled back as both took deep breaths in.

Owen felt the pain radiate over his body as blood dripped onto the ground. It smelled of ivory and sweat.Father, we just want our child. What is any of this going to prove?

His father sharpened his gaze. It's a pity how far you have fallen, Owen, his father said in response. You could have been great. You could have been the next alpha, but instead, you threw it all away from this bimbo.

Just give me my son!Owen snapped, and Dernet lunged at him once more.
