Owen’s brother focused on him. “Trevor is waiting for you at the border.”

Reika looked to her mate, seeing him raise a brow. “Cousin Trevor?”

“Yes, said he wanted to speak with you. I didn’t know what he wanted, so I told him to wait for your word before crossing into our territory.”

Owen snorted. “You can go get him and bring him here.”

Mateo gave his brother a salute. “Roger that. I’ll be right back.”

Reika shook her head, watching Owen’s younger sibling race out and slam the door again. She sighed to herself. She really needed to put one of those hydraulic door closers on that door. At this rate, one of them was going to wake the baby, and it was going to make her crankier than he was.

She felt an arm come around her waist, pulling her into a hard chest, and looked up, pressing her hands to Owen’s pecs when he leaned forward to kiss her.

“Sorry about this.”

“It’s okay. Do we like Trevor?”

He laughed at her. “Yes. He’s good. He’s from one of the packs up north. Though, I’m curious as to why he’s down here.”

“Maybe something’s going on up there?”

“Hmm. Maybe. I don’t see what, though. Trevor should be taking over as alpha soon enough. His father isn’t much younger than mine.”

Reika rubbed her hands over her mate’s chest. “Maybe he needs some pre-alpha-to-alpha advice.”

He laughed again, squeezing her. “You think so?”

“Let’s hope so. I don’t think I can deal with any more family drama.” Their door slammed open again, causing Reika to roll her eyes. The next time I go back into town, I’m getting a damn door closer.

Stepping away from Owen, she let the cousins hug each other before holding out her hand to shake Trevor’s.

“So, this is the infamous mate I’ve been hearing all about.”

She laughed a little. “All good things, I hope.”

“Of course. My cousin only waxes poetic about you.”

Next to her, Owen grinned. “I mean, look at her. Wouldn’t you?”

She felt Trevor’s dark eyes run over her, his hands finding his hips. “I certainly don’t blame you, cousin. I also heard that you’re a father now. Congratulations.”

“Thank you. You just missed him, actually.”

“Oh,” Trevor shook his head. “That’s a shame …”

Just then, Reika heard Gunner cry from the other room. She shot all three men a look and pointed.

“Next time, don’t slam the door.”

There was a rumble of laughter from all of them as she departed to grab Gunner and lull him back to sleep. From the hallway, she heard Owen say, “Let’s step outside and let my mate put our baby back down peacefully.”

She smiled to herself, opening the door to Gunner’s room and hearing his soft cries grow louder. At least her mate had the sense to keep the house quiet while their baby slept. Maybe he’d manage to knock some sense into his brother while he was at it.

She scooped Gunner up into her arms and rocked him gently.

“Time for sleep, little one.”
