Even if he did not have a pack to care for, he had been prepared to accept major changes to his life from the moment he had run away with his mate. It was not difficult to throw away his old life now that he knew what he’d been searching for all that time.

When they finished dinner, Gunner was ready for another feed. Owen took the dishes away and cleaned the kitchen, hurrying back to the couch so he could sit and watch Reika feeding their son.

In the dim light, her green eyes still reflected the light. He was caught in that emerald net as she smiled at him as if encouraging him to drown. He moved to sit beside her and embraced them both, feeling warmth and fulfillment in his heart that he could never have imagined.

I was searching for a home, not a cheap thrill. A real home. A sense of purpose.

He looked into Reika’s eyes again, bending down to lose himself in her kiss.

I found it.

Iamhome.

EPILOGUE

REIKA

Finally, getting Gunner settled down for his afternoon nap, Reika couldn’t help but collapse onto the couch.

She threw an arm over her eyes and let herself relax into the soft cushions underneath her, feeling a strange sort of loneliness come over her. While she didn’t miss the stress of being pregnant, she certainly missed having someone with her twenty-four seven.

With Owen working with their packs and keeping the peace between everyone, it’d taken him away too much for her liking lately. She was understanding, knowing that he was only doing so for the sake of their family and the peace between them. But, damn, if she didn’t feel kind of envious.

She missed the closeness she’d had with her son and her mate … even if those times had been incredibly stressful and not something she ever wanted to go back to.

She let herself sigh. At least Owen should be back sometime soon.

Just then, the door to their apartment slammed open, making her sit up from the couch. Reika couldn’t help but grin, swinging her legs over the side to stand and meet him halfway. She instantly threw her arms around him, getting a chuckle out of him as he lifted her off her feet.

“Miss me?” he teased.

She nodded into his shoulder. “You know I did.”

He swung her around gently, walking them both back to the couch before settling down onto it with her on top of him. Reika let out a soft noise, resting her ear against his chest and listening to that steady heartbeat that lulled her to sleep every night.

“How’s Gunner?”

She smiled. “Napping.”

“Good.” A hand ran down her spine, tracing small circles as it went. “How’s my beautiful mate?”

Reika lifted her head, opening her mouth to tell him how much she’d missed him throughout the day, when a loud banging from the door alerted them both.

Within the same span of time, both Reika and Owen swung themselves upright and onto their feet, ready for whatever … orwhoever… walked through that door. A low growl slipped from Owen’s lips, making Reika tense her shoulders.

“Whoa, whoa,” a familiar voice said, footsteps striding in. “It’s just me, guys.”

Owen sighed and straightened himself up. “A little warning next time would be nice.”

Mateo held up his hands, stopping right in the doorway and heading into the living room.

“Sorry, I followed you back here after our meeting.”

Reika rolled her eyes and grabbed a pillow off of the couch, chucking it across the living room to smack Mateo in the chest.

“Hey, now,” Mateo snatched it out of the air before it hit him. “I just came to relay a message.”

“Which is?”
