Maybe I should just confess my feelings.

Maybe then Asher will confess his own feelings or he’ll just tell me to go screw and then this whole thing can be over with and Mason won’t ever have to know. And I’ll somehow move on or put my crush to rest or just ignore Asher for the rest of my existence.

Yeah, wishful thinking.

I can’t exactly ignore my twin brother’s best friend. He’s always around.

I doubt Asher would say anything to Mason about my little crush. Especially if he feels the same way back. He knows how Mason feels about a relationship between us. He’s made it loud and clear, several times through our high school years, when he told Asher straight up- my sister is off limits.

Which he told to most boys who even showed an inkling to liking me.

I look at the two guys sitting on my couch, stuffing their faces with pizza, and laughing at some stupid joke.

They both keep my heart full and happy just the way everything is.

But am I truly happy deep down?

Would I be okay with Asher always being nothing more than my brother’s best friend?

I often wonder.

* * *

The first beach bash of the new school takes place the weekend before classes start and when I say it's wild, I’m not exaggerating at all. It’s insane.

But it’s also an insanely good time.

Freshman year I followed Asher and Mason around like a little lost puppy until Chloe rescued me and we started meeting other girls from our dorm.

Last year, I had a bad head cold and skipped out.

This year, it’s time to fucking party.

“Wooooo!” I shout as I slam down another shot. “Another round on me!”

Chloe giggles around the lemon wedge she’s sucking on as Tyler licks a line of salt off her chest and pops a lemon into his own mouth.

“Yah Mads! Keep em coming!” Mason shouts from behind me where he stands with an annoyed looking Sienna on his arm. I still can’t believe they’re going on a year together already. Sienna is still a tough cookie, no matter how much I offer a smile, all I get is a mean muggin glare.

The whole gang's here tonight. Asher stands next to Mason as he listens to Remi talk his ear about some new movie that just came out. Holden joins in the conversation too.

Landon and Rhett are goofing off like they usually do, and my girls next to me gossip about the latest SC drama.

Trust me, Sierra Cove could have its own daytime tv show with the amount of drama that goes down around here.

“Next round is on me!” Lennox calls as she wraps an arm around me. Ah, my crazy redheaded party girl never lets me down.

“That’s my girl!” I say as we take down the round I just got. Lennox orders another round and this time, we all cheer.

“Cheers to each other and good fucking times!” Mason says and we all clink glasses.

More rounds are bought and as each one goes down easier than the last, I know I need to switch to water before I’m puking everywhere.

Our group shifts away from the drink area and near a big bonfire. Music plays loud on a nearby speaker and I start to dance. Chloe, Lennox, Everleigh, and Maia, my four best girl friends, join in and soon we’re lost in our own little dance bubble.

“Woahhh,” I stumble as the alcohol rushes through my veins and makes my head spin. Sweat trickles down my forehead and I flip my hair over as I try to gather it into a bun.

But soon I find my ass in the sand.
