“Nine classes, Mads? That’s fucking insane.”

“Okay says Mr. Aerodynamics major with a minor in engineering. Like what’s next? Rocket science?”

Asher chuckles and I grin inside knowing I got the broody serious dude smiling. Win for me.

“I might consider it.” He gives me that easy grin of his and it makes me squirm inside at the same time it makes me envious.

Not only does it all come so easy for him, things just roll right off his shoulders. He takes life in stride and with way less stress than I only wish I could manage.

“How many classes do you have?”

“Six. And I’m swamped. I can’t imagine nine.”

“Yep. Add track on top of that, and I’m surprised I find time to sleep.”

“Don’t overdo it and burn out alright?” The concern in his face makes me stop walking and I turn to face him.

He’s always been overprotective of me. A worrier just like Mason, where was I going, who was I going with.

But for once, I wish he would just see me.

Not Mason’s sister.

Just me. Madison.

I open my mouth to tell him not to worry when suddenly Mason’s between us, hollering like an idiot. Where the hell did he come from?

“Yoooo! It’s Friday, woot! Whose going to the beach party with me?”

I laugh at my brother, his happy personality infectious. He always said he couldn’t wait for the college beach parties. Our parents were on the strict side and didn’t let us out much, so besides the times we snuck out, parties were few and far between.

Not here though.

Any Friday or Saturday night, there’s always one happening somewhere. Surrounding colleges and locals throwing beach parties; it’s endless fun.

But too bad I need to study if I have any hope of passing my Midterms. Which at this point seems like an impossible feat.

“Your ass is going whether you want it to or not,” Mason elbows Asher in the side, their usual banter amusing to watch.

“I guess my right to decide where I’m spending my evening is gone.”

“Cmon, Ashhhh,” Mason whines, his nickname for his best friend drawn out extra today.

Mase usually gets what he wants so I doubt Asher will say no. But I sure am.

“I have way too much studying to do. You two have fun.” I turn to go when Mason catches my arm.

“You study too much, Mads. C’mon. Hang out with your bro. The one you love so much.” He makes a heart shape with his hands and I laugh.

“Nice try but if I don’t study, I doubt I’ll pass my midterms.”

Mason eyes me. He knows I work hard, and that studying doesn’t come easy to me. But he also thinks I push myself way too hard. Which I do. How else will I succeed?

“I highly doubt you’ll fail. Besides, you study hard enough as it is. You deserve a break, sis. That smart brain of yours needs a vacation.” Mason throws his arm around my shoulder. “Am I convincing you?”

I shake my head. “Nope. You and Asher have fun.”

Heat prickles the back of my neck as I literally feel Asher’s stare. I want to look at him but my cheeks will flame like the thirteen year old inside me still partying it up with my hormones.
