She tries talking but her words are muffled by the rag. And truth is, I’m not here to chat. I’m here to lay out my terms and then sic Diablo on her when she breaks them.

“Do you understand?”

She nods and I sigh. Thank god. I am over this already. I just want to get on with my day.

“Now, as a little incentive, because really, what incentive do you have to listen to me? None at all. So as of this moment, you, Susana, are officially dead.”

She shakes her head again crying, andI swear to god, is that saw getting louder? I turn around and see an electric saw in each of Diablo’s hands.

“Turn that shit off, Diablo! Motherfuck! I can’t fucking think,” I shout.

“Do not speak to me like that. Or I’ll have Skylar smash you,” he grunts, but thankfully the saws cut off and I turn to face a trembling Susana. Well, I’d feel bad if she didn’t deserve it.

This bitch had it coming.

“Like I said.Dead.” I show her the death certificate in my hand. “Now, you’re already technically six feet under, so if I find out you were in contact with my William again, no one will miss you when we come back to kill you for real. Because you are currently kaput and you’re going to stay that way.”

She starts trying to talk again and I smack her in the leg with her death certificate as hard as I can.

“Shut up and listen.”

She stills, a tear leaking out of her eye.

“If you don’t leave him alone, with just a push of a button, you will disappear. Your bank records, your credit cards, your birth certificate, your social security number, everything. It’ll be like you never existed. And then you’ll be disposed of for good. Do you understand me?”

She nods and I stand up, placing my hands on my hips, and look around.

“This place needs a major renovation. I suggest you move. Find something nicer. Far, far away.” I glance down at her. “Do you understand?”

She nods dramatically and I add, “And do not even bother reporting this. You’ll get nowhere.”

“No-where,” Diablo parrots. “Now can we go? This is boring. Especially if I can’t use the saws.”

I glance at Diablo and shake my head. “Yeah, let’s go.”

“I have things to do. People to see.” I set the death certificate on the table and glance back at Susana.

“Far, far away. No contact,” I repeat because I really don’t want to have her killed.

Hopefully she takes us seriously.

But I wouldn’t feel that bad making her disappear if push comes to shove.

Diablo packs up his saws, and a few minutes later we’re making our way back outside, squinting in the bright morning sun.

“Well, that was a lot of drama for a Tuesday. Were the saws really necessary?” I ask him.

“I know,” he says. “But it made her take us seriously. And with my height and general appearance, I need the fucking saws, Lex.”

I give an understanding nod. “Touché.”

“Now, Skylar and I have a game meet at ten. So, we need to fucking scoot.”

Skylar wordlessly moves toward the car with Diablo and I watch in disbelief as he scrunches inside.

That poor man. Hopefully he’s getting paid enough for this.

I glance down at my phone, swipe at the screen, and pull up the video feed of William’s office.
