I can let it all out tonight with Lex. When we’re alone.

I glance over at him and see that he is listening intently to something Emery is saying and my heart stumbles.

Having him here with me makes it easier in so many ways. Neither of us is alone now.

“Let me help you,” August says, moving in to grab two mugs from the counter.

His kind eyes meet mine and I blink up at him because Lex is right. August is disgustingly handsome. I can see why Lex felt so insecure about me potentially ogling him.

But he’s not Lex.

Lex is in a league of his own.

I will never set my eyes on another.

I follow August back to the couch and sink down next to Lex who just crawls onto my lap and tucks himself against me, his mug cradled in his hand.

“So, tell me something disgusting about you two so I can take my mind off of all the bad shit going on,” he says after a long silence.

Emery taps his lips before taking a noisy slurp of his coffee. Then he grimaces dramatically.

“There needs to be like ten more scoops of sugar in here. This tastes like soil and not the good kind.”

“Is there a good kind of soil you eat?” Lex asks.

“There could be,” Emery says while glancing back at August and holding out his mug. “Pretty please? Make it better. I cannot live like this. I feel like an earthworm drinking this.”

August sighs and stands up, but before he moves into the kitchen he says, “Two scoops, Em. That’s all I’m giving you.”

“I mean, is this a negotiation? Because I feel like this is a hostage situation right now.”

August chuckles lowly and moves into the kitchen, Emery’s eyes on his boyfriend’s ass as he goes.

Emery leans toward us. “Okay, so here is a little bit of gossip to hopefully take your mind off things.”

Lex arches an eyebrow at his best friend. “Do tell. Don’t skip any details.”

“So, you know Diablo?”

Lex leans in closer and I find myself doing the same. Because I remember that little runt scurrying around Lex’s apartment, stealing his food.

“So, get this, he called me today, and guess what?”

“What?”

“Apparently his dad is sending him away for safety reasons.”

Lex leans back against me and sighs, “Damn, I was going to ask him to help me with my business…”

“Are you insane? That would be a huge mistake,” Emery says. “He’d burn it to the ground. On purpose.”

“True. I’m obviously not thinking clearly,” Lex says and then asks, “What did that little shit do?”

Emery bobs his head and shifts in his seat a little. “Probably hacked the wrong person. He’s always causing trouble. I tried to get the details, but he wouldn’t fucking budge. Said it was a secret. I mean, can you believe him? Like I would ever say anything. I am a steel trap of secrets. Nothing gets out of me.”

My eyebrows rise at that because that doesn’t seem very accurate. He’s more like a floodgate opened wide.

Lex sips at his coffee. “Is Skylar going with him?”
