But still, he doesn’t let me go.
Oh, this is a total power play now. Watch out, Finn. I play in the big leagues.
I cup a cheek in my hands, feeling how firm it is beneath my palm and I squeeze it roughly. His body jerks, but he still holds onto me, so I let my fingers slide over to his crack, tracing it with my finger.
But just before I can slide inside the crease, I’m on the ground, wobbling slightly as my blood flows away from my head.
Finn steadies me with his hands, his cheeks flushed and lips parted.
I peek over and see my dad at the cat tree, blathering on and on to no one in particular about the additions he’s made, all while petting Curie’s back.
“You play dirty,” Finn whispers.
“I play to win. I would have stuck my finger right up your asshole too. Try me, Finn. Do it.”
His cheeks darken, his fingers flexing on me, and I let out a muffled laugh.
“Guys, want to see the kitty bed I made her? Mom sewed her a little comforter too. It’s so cute,” my dad calls out excitedly, pulling off the roof to one of the rooms and peering inside. “It has little mice on the fabric,” he adds and then beams at us.
Across the room, Vincent bleats loudly and then prances over to us as we peer at the little handcrafted cat bed. Ioohandahhover it and my dad puffs up with pride.
Vincent bumps my leg with his head, and I lean down and pet him just as Logan and Theo step into the house from the backyard.
God, it’s so funny seeing the two of them together. They couldn’t be more different if they tried. The nerd and the jock, but somehow, they totally work. And I can see how far-gone Logan is for Theo. Theo is a little hard to read, but there have been times when I’ve caught him just staring at Logan, hearts in his eyes.
“Hey, you two! You took your time coming over,” Logan says, pulling me into a bone-crushing hug. I wheeze a laugh as I smack a wet kiss against his cheek, so happy things are back to normal for us. It was weird for far too long. He swipes at the wet spot on his cheek and then moves to grapple with Finn, wrestling with him while Finn tries to hold onto the box of wine still clutched in his hand.
“Let me go, asshole,” Finn mutters, the bottles rattling.
“Have to take advantage of you while your hands are full,” Logan says.
A mortified laugh escapes Theo as he stares at his boyfriend.
“What? What did I say?” Logan asks, and Theo just shakes his head, moving toward Finn and taking the box from his hands.
“Here, let me take this for you,” he says as Finn straightens up, righting his shirt and hair. Theo glances down and his eyes widen, just now noticing what’s inside the box.
“Those are all for you, dude,” Finn says. “You’re going to spend your week here drunk as hell.”
“I didn’t…I just mentioned that thing about the wine once. I didn’t mean for you to buy the whole store.”
Logan moves toward him and presses his lips to Theo’s temple. “Relax, Theo. It’s not a big deal.”
“We all like a good red in this house,” my mom chirps from the kitchen. “I like all the wines.”
Theo nods, swallowing roughly, and then moves to where my mom is, setting the box down on the island.
My mom peers into the box, waggles her eyebrows, and then reaches into a cabinet, pulling down some mugs.
“I hope no one expected wine glasses,” she says as my dad indiscreetly feeds Vincent a carrot. Curie has disappeared inside the cat tree entirely and I have a feeling we won’t be seeing her for hours. She’s probably plotting world domination.
“We all know we aren’t fancy folk,” I say as Finn moves away from my side to help her pour the wine.
“Yeah, that we aren’t,” my dad says, and then his eyebrows shoot up. “Hey, did I tell you guys? I’m thinking about growing some vines—”
“Over my dead body, Basil,” my mom interjects. “It’s more than just vines. It’s all the equipment we’d need too. We’ve discussed this already.”
My dad ignores her. “Look, I have some space near the shed. I could grow a few different kinds and see how I like them. Then we could have our own homemade wine for the holidays.”
