Nova leaned back against the tree throwing one leg over Lottie’s shoulder while she guided her head, trusting against her delicious mouth. What felt like hours to Nova was only minutes before she exploded in ecstasy, crying out in unbridled joy. Lottie leaned back, wiping her mouth on her sleeve, watching Nova catch her breath.I love this woman. The thought startled but didn’t necessarily scare her.

A whistle sounded through the woods and Nova jumped to zip her pants up.

“What was that?” Lottie asked, standing up.

“It’s just Cain. He’ll find us in a minute.”

Lottie stepped forward, kissing Nova deeply before licking the two small holes she’d left in her neck. “Good as new.”

Nova smiled but she noticed the smile didn’t reach her eyes.

“Ladies, my deepest apologies.” Cain gave a little bow as he stopped in front of the two women. Reading the tension, he looked between them. Did something happen? You both seem almost upset.”

Nova responded before Lottie could even think of what to say. “Just waiting on you, again.”

Cain smiled, holding his arms open for a group hug. “I’m sorry, truly. You know how this campaign is going.”

“Oh,” Nova stayed put, not giving in to Cain yet. “I thought you were speaking with my father.”

“It was NAME. He just wanted to go over a few things. He and Beau have some ideas to discuss with me about a new campaign objective.”

Nova nodded. Lottie watched the exchange between the couple; the energy between them vastly different than earlier that morning.

Turning to Lottie, Cain asked, “Shall we get going? I’d like to make it to the beach and back before dinner.” Cain started down the trail. Lottie shrugged at Nova, reaching for her hand. She accepted and they followed behind their boyfriend. Eventually the conversation started flowing again and the threesome had a wonderful time on their hike. Making sure no one was watching, all three stripped down to swim in the freezing water. Cain and Lottie pointed out different trees and plants to Nova, and they climbed a few trees to get the views from the top. As they reached the head of the trail, Nova stopped.

“Do we have to go back so soon? Can’t we stay in our own little bubble?”

Lottie hugged her. “Aww, baby. We can runaway together if you want.” She winked at Cain who frowned briefly before grinning. What was the frown for?

“Sure, we can just stay out here, build a little hut, and live off the land.”

Nova scoffed. “As if I would live in a hut. Of all the nonsense.” She started to walk off, Cain and Lottie chuckling behind her. The trio walked back to the resort in silence, each lost in their own thoughts.

“It’s about damn time. You two go to your suite. I’ll be up shortly.” Beau stood next to the entrance, leaning against a stone pillar.

“Beau,” Cain nodded heading towards the lobby.

“Excuse me? You can’t ‘send me to my room.’”

Cain stopped, sighing. “Nova, let’s not do this right here in front of the door.”

“He’s right, Nova. We will discuss this in your room. Go.”

Nova seethed but knew better than to embarrass her family. She turned to Lottie. “I will call you later to discuss the lessons you missed.” Lottie nodded, watching as Cain dragged Nova by the hand to the elevators.

Chapter Ten

Lottie threw herself across her bed, reeling from her interaction with Beau Bryant, or lack thereof. He hadn’t acknowledged her. Dismissed her as if she were one of the bellboys waiting for a tip.

“Lots?” Vance glided out of their shared bathroom, sitting opposite his roommate. “Why are you upset? Why are you here for that matter. Rumor has it that you and our teachers shacked up.”

Lottie laughed, rolling over on her back. “Something like that. I’m not sure what exactly happened this evening. Nova’s father showed up.”

“Oh, no. Was he mad?”

“He seemed mad, but I don’t know why. He didn’t even look in my direction, just told Cain and Nova to go to their suite and he would talk to them shortly.”

“Sounds ominous.”
