Page 63 of Kissed By Her

“Ready,” she said, holding up her bags. I didn’t know if I was allowed to kiss her in public, so I waited for her to make a move.

“Really?” she said after a few seconds of awkwardness.

“What?” I asked.

“You were all about kissing me last night and now you’ve lost your nerve?” she said.

“I didn’t know if it was allowed!” I said, startling some people nearby who were getting out of their car.

Honor stepped closer to me. “You don’t have to kiss me if you don’t want to.”

“I do want to,” I said, and then I leaned forward and kissed her. Honor inhaled through her nose in shock, but she didn’t pull away. I slanted my mouth over hers, deepening the kiss before pulling back.

“There,” I said. “Is that allowed?”

“It’s encouraged,” she said, her voice a little breathless. Good. I liked seeing her that way.

“Glad we figured that out,” I said, transferring my tote bags to one hand and holding out my other to her.

“Are we doing this?” she asked.

“Yes,” I said, wiggling my fingers. Maybe she wasn’t a hand-holder. Maybe she thought that kind of PDA was too much.

The entire town was pretty much milling around today, so if she took my hand, that was a public declaration that we had some kind of relationship.

Honor looked up and down the street and the longer she stood there, the more I could see her panicking.

“It’s okay. I’m sorry, that was probably too much,” I said.

“I want to,” Honor said. “But I need more time.”

“You got it,” I said, trying not to feel hurt. Things between us were so new, so fresh. I needed to hit the brakes so I didn’t scare her off.

“Come help me pick out some good tomatoes,” I said, and she gave me a smile.

“Sure.”

We saw just about everyone, and it took way longer than I anticipated to make it to all the tables and booths. I picked up the most gorgeous heirloom tomatoes that I was going to make a big caprese salad with, some basil to go with it, a block of local sheep’s milk cheese, a bag of croissants, and a candle from a local maker.

Sydney and her mom had a booth out in front of the pottery store that Sydney was manning to sell a few smaller pottery pieces like ornaments and coffee cups.

“You should go and say hello,” Honor told me, bumping my shoulder with hers. She’d barely bought anything, and I wanted to ask about it.

“Will you come with me?” I asked. If she and I were going to be a thing, I wanted my friends to know about it. I mean, they already knew about the kiss, so seeing me and Honor together wasn’t going to be that big of a shock.

“As long as you don’t put me on the spot,” Honor said.

I nodded and we walked up to Sydney’s table. She stood up to stretch her arms and beamed when I waved at her.

“Thank god, can you do me a huge favor and stand here so I can go pee?”

“Yeah, no problem,” I said.

“Hi, Honor,” Sydney said with a wink before she vanished into the pottery shop to use the bathroom.

Honor gave me a look.
