Page 64 of Kissed By Her

“What? I didn’t say anything to her. I mean, she and Joy know about us kissing because they were literally there, but they don’t know that you came over last night or that we’re doing whatever we’re doing.”

Not much of what I said made sense.

“Are you upset?” I asked, pulling her behind the table where Syd had been standing. The crowd was a slow-moving tide that moved past the table, with a few people stopping and lingering for a moment before moving on.

“No, I’m not upset,” Honor said, doing that forehead-rubbing move again.

“Should we go? I feel like I’ve fucked up somehow, but I’m not really sure what to do about it,” I said.

Honor sighed. “You didn’t fuck anything up, stop doing that. Stop trying to fix something that isn’t broken. I’m just reeling from how things have changed between us, and you seem to be full-steam ahead and I’m trying to catch up.”

She had a point. “Maybe it would help to talk about our expectations.”

Sydney came back and gave me a hug. “Thank you so much. Can you do me another huge favor?”

“Of course,” I said, turning away from Honor for a second.

“Can you get me an iced coffee? I would love you forever.”

“You already love me forever,” I said.

“I’ll love you for forever, forever,” she said.

I laughed. “Okay. We’ll be right back.”

Sydney waved and sat back down in her chair with a sigh as a woman picked up a mug and asked her how much it was.

The line for the coffee shop was horrendous, so we ended up waiting outside.

“I’m not ready to be public,” Honor finally said. “I’m still not sure what I want.”

“Okay,” I said. “Thank you for telling me.”

Honor cringed. “And now I feel like a bitch.”

“I hate to break this to you, but you kind of are a bitch. It’s cool, it’s one of the things I like about you.” I leaned into her and stroked her arm.

“Being a bitch is in my genetic code,” she said. “Letting myself have feelings is not. This is new and, honestly, you scare the shit out of me.”

She said the words in a low voice so no one could overhear her.

“That makes two of us that are terrified, so you’re in good company.” The line moved and we made it inside the shop.

“Be patient with me,” Honor said. “Please. Because I really like you, Layne. I can’t even believe I’m saying that, but I do.”

“I like you too,” I said. “I think.”

She glared at me and the line moved again.

“Oh look, they have brownies on the menu. What kind would you like? My treat.”

“More apology brownies?”

“No. Just regular brownies.”

She brushed her fingers across my shoulder in a sweet gesture. “Seems like a letdown after eating slutty apology brownies.”

“The brownies can be slutty if you want them to be. You just have to believe,” I said, and Honor laughed.
