“Lark and Layne sounds like a badass duo,” Lark said. “I like it.”

“Me too,” I said, laughing.

“Sorry,” Honor said, cringing as she made her way over.

“For what?” I asked. Honor looked at me and then Lark and back.

“I told her not to make this a big deal,” Honor said.

“I’m not making it a big deal, calm down,” Lark said. “She’s always telling me that I’m too much.”

“Oh, really,” I said, turning to Honor. “We have that in common.”

“When have I ever told you that you’re too much?” Honor said to me.

“It’s implied,” I said. “Doesn’t matter, because if I’m too much for someone, they should go find less somewhere else.”

“I completely agree,” Lark said, beaming. “Should we go? I’m starving.”

I liked her instantly.

Honor seemed wary as Lark hopped in the backseat, giving me the front to sit with Honor as she chatted away.

“I’ve been dying to join book club, but this one said that I wasn’t allowed,” she said, pointing to Honor as she backed out and pulled onto the road to head to the restaurant.

“I never said that,” Honor said.

Lark rolled her eyes. “Okay, fine. But you told me it was your thing and that you needed something that was just yours. And then I found out about you and it all made sense.”

I looked over my shoulder and saw a smirk on Lark’s face.

“Lark,” Honor said in an exasperated voice that made me think of how I interacted with Liam.

“Hey, I’m not going to judge you, I just wish you’d been honest with me, HONOR,” Lark said, emphasizing her sister’s name.

Honor muttered something under her breath.

“What was that?” Lark said, leaning over between the seats.

I turned and smiled at Honor, who was doing her best to keep her attention on the road with a glare on her face.

“This is going to be fun,” I said.

Honor and Larkcould not have been more opposite. Where Honor was prim and reserved, Lark was gregarious and seemed to say whatever she thought.

By the time we got to the restaurant, I had learned quite about Honor Conroy.

“Why are you like this?” Honor said after Lark had told a funny story about Honor having a goth phase in high school that was short-lived.

“You’d look hot as a goth,” I said as we got out of the car at the restaurant.

“She probably still has the black choker and fishnets somewhere,” Lark said, wiggling her eyebrows.

“You are walking home,” Honor said to Lark as I held the door open for everyone.
